How about this for reliability ?

November 31st last year the Tax ran out on my 2000MY V6 Cougar, so with regret i decided to SORN it and bag her up for the winter. Today the temptation was too much so i ended up going on-line and taxing her, spent 1/2hour removing the covers checking the tyre pressures and connecting the battery. Got in the car...radio was asking for the code....did that....adjusted the elec seat that worked....so here we go...ignition pstn 2....all lights up and still looking promising....turn the key and....walllah....the V6 started up 1st time after 3 months standing in all that rain we just had, even the battery didn't require charging. Took her for a 10mile drive cycle and she performed like a thorougbred, so how's that for reliability then !!!! TS

In general, the battery seems to be the limiting factor. The cars in general seem to not care in the slightest that they've been sat around.

To be honest with a modern engine, like you say the battery will be the factor that affects it, there's nothing really mechanical that can misbehave if it's left, unless the fuel has gone stale or its be left such an extraordinary time the engine seizes.

Disconnecting the battery was a smart move.
