Hi all. Does anyone know how I could go about draining the fuel on my Ford Cougar V6. It has been off road for about 3yrs and a while back I charged the battery and tried to turn it over and it tried to start.... caught and then died so I would assume the petrol is bad but can't find how to drain it to put fresh in. Thanks for your help.

Jack up the off side to gain access to the fuel filter, remove filter. Unplug the coil pack and remove all spark plugs. Now have someone turn the car over whilst your catching the fuel in a suitable container from the input side of the filter hose

disconnect all the pipework and drop the tank, there is a plastic plug on the drivers side that is used for draining, all the pipes enter the tank from the top so using them is pointless as you wil put strain on the fuel pump when it gets low, I have removed my old tank so will take a picture at the weekend and show you the drain plug (y)

Jacked it up and had a look under and found the drain plug but as Procomm said you have to drop the tank a couple of inches to access the plug. Not sure exactly what I would need to undo to do this eg: pipes and nuts. Would it just be the strap nuts?

ARB is also in the way of one of the tank strap bolts I think.

This is something I need to do soon as my filler pipes are in a right state, can someone tell me how the filler pipe disconnects from the tank? As last time Alan and I tried it we just ended up breaking the white circular clip.....which I'd rather avoid :)
