Hey all, Im thinking of selling my cougar but Im not sure how much it is worth as the prices seem to be all over, Ive seem some at £400 and Some at £1400. Its a V6 with 108k on the clock. It drives great, has all good tyres and Im about to put fresh MOT on the car. It has had a paint job at some point which isn't the best but it still looks tidy and the paint work is only noticeable upon close inspection. Any ideas how much my car is worth? Id doesnt have leather or history? Cheers

Unfortunately the coug aint worth a lot these days I'm afraid, so as others have said above between £400-£500, however, it's up to you what you decide to sell it at. Ieends on how quickly you want to sell and it depends on what buyers want to pay. Good luck with the sale.

The prices do seem to be creeping up again on cougars but this is only really happening on top spec models with very low mileage and in mint condition, to be honest as has already been said with cloth interior and not perfect paint i would expect between 400-500 quid..
Good luck with the sale what ever you decide to do chap.. (y)

Completed listings on ebay are showing sale prices are going up too Si, only a very small amount and it's more for late models in mint condition with very very low miles mate.. :)
Also i have noticed quite a few adverts on both ebay and autotrader calling the cougar rare and a future classic... i bloody hope so...

asking prices are deffinitly on the up there is a low millage v6 for sale in glenrothes 60k no mot tax needs welding £500

You might find this rise in prices is a function of a general recession. You'll probably find that most cars in the 500quid sort of region are in greater demand because fewer people than normal can afford more expensive cars.

invlation is costing every one in the pocket having to look at a mini bus tommorow £12,500 for a 3 year old traffic and then you look at my dads house it only cost him 13grand when he got it

true but i bet my wage aint far off what people were earning back then 20 years ago at least it feals that way

Yes indeed I was up untill fairly recently working for an auto factors and the wage was the worse i've been on in 20 years, with the way the economy is currently employers can take the p*$$ with what they pay :cautious:

I was pretty shocked at how much the Cougar is valued at, when i went to insure it they say about £450 for a 2.0 zetec and 40k genuine my flabber was gasted...

I just last month sold my cougar for £800 it had 86k and was modded and a C2 (waits for jokes.....;)...) I didn't think I was gonna get that price mind you.
As for insurance, ive just had a quote for about £600+ still (even though ive sold it) but thats just me, its half that price for my fiesta and that only cost me £150 to buy lol
Comparing the price of cars to houses is a little false, house prices went up (my mate bought one in the late 90s for 80k and sold it in 2004 for double that, try doing that with a mainstream car) likewise my parents house cost them £3k back in 68 but its now worth at least £150k but the monthly wage was about £150 in 1968, so it took 20odd years to pay it off. You wouldn't do that on a car

For what it's worth, I agree with Matt. You expect (hope) that a house will appreciate in value; unless you're buying a classic car, you really shouldn't have any expectation of that.
