How you can double the value of your car.

I am new to this forum but have owned by 2000, x reg, C2 since 2001. It is a totaly standard metalic green 2.5 V6 manual with 37k miles, with leather seats fronts heated, climit control but also with factory sunroof. I was thinking of selling it so thought i would check its value on WE BUY ANY CAR.com. their valuation came back at £150- £49.99 admin so = £100.01 cash in hand. So with this cold snap my battery started playing up and found the cost would be £95 to £130 so if i buy this battery the value of my car will have doubled.
So they might say they are friendly and happy to help, what they mean is they happy to rip you off.

Put it this way, your headlights are worth more on the 2nd hand market alone. Have a look on ebay for prices of C2's. They do sell for more than the C1 due to the nice bits the C1 never got. It is worth at least £1000 in breaking it and selling stuff off.

Also look at it the other way by spending £100 quid on the battery means your car was worthless before :eek:
 
In fairness to them, they're in business to make money so they're never going to give the market value of the vehicle. Anything over ten year old, not classed as a 'prestige' isn't going ot make them any money, so the Cougar will either find itself at auction, or at a breaker's yard.

So, the value of the car to them, say £500 tops, less what they pay you for it, less their overheads, less an auction fee and they'll be breaking even at best.
 
I would say that given you have had this car since 2001 and the very very low mileage I would expect that you might just about get £2000 if it is in top condition with service history.

I disagree guys, it has only done 37K, it is a C2 and it has got all the extra's as well. I think if it is in top condition, then on a good day you could get £2K for it. We all know that any car modded does not fetch any extra money, no matter how much has been spent on it. Sometimes a standard model that is perfect with low miles would always fetch more money.

You never know, if someone wants one with low miles and in good condition then why not. People pay £1K for Cougar's much older with 3 times the mileage. If it is well looked after then why not. It could last another 11 years if well treated.
 
At the other extreme from doubling the cars value etc, i have very recently just caused the value of my car to depreciate by appx 4x. Yes, i put some new alloys and tyres on it ;)
 
Someone told me that webuyanycar like to make a minimum of £100 on a car. Considering they sell mainly to the trade who then need to put their mark up on you can see why it ends up so little.


On the flip side I bought a car a couple of years ago which was quite a bargain - I had a quick check on webuyanycar and they were offering about £500 more than I paid for the car. It was a cracking buy though and is still worth just about what we paid for it 3 years later.
 
On the flip side, some people (including myself) would look upon a 10 year old car with tiny mileage as a reason not to buy as it may have been used mainly for short journeys :eek:
