Think this is the 4th time I’ve come back? Unless you count buying MOE back then it’s the 5th!

Some of you would have recently seen I purchased DG from Mick, most of you know I’ve flitted about with this idea for a while.

She will be coming back and then going off to the guys who have built both my R34 and R35 GTR.

The plan will be to have her completely stripped, bare metal glass out respray (keeping her original colour) all rust cut out and replaced.
While this is ongoing the engine is going to be boosted and ‘hopefully’ find a 4wd kit to have her ending up around the 350-400bhp mark running 4wd.

I appreciate that she was very cared for and none of this is to undo the hard work Al put in, the restoration will see her being on the road for atleast the next 10-15years. The body will not change at all, she is in my opinion one of the best looking Cougars out there.

Having recently sold my R34 to the states, it’s freed up enough cash to see this transformation through.

A full build page will be listed shortly!

In true fashion though with my head being scrambled, I had completely forgot that I had purchased Dicks Cougar about 12months ago?! (Those who have me on Facebook will know I was going through a lot late last year - Story for another time!)
Not sure what the plan is with Dicks yet! Perhaps get it back running and then pass it on to another club member to enjoy? Honestly, I don’t know!

So yeah I am back, again!
Current fleet is
VW T6 (family bus!)
XC90 T8 - Beast of a car
R35 GTR (running 1,154bhp!)
DG
Dicks Cougar

And I promised myself this year I would cut down! Admiral loves me 🤣

Okay, I haven't been keeping up. I had no idea you bought Dick's Cougar. Have you made any progress with it?

As for DG, that's an ambitious project. Not sure how common 4x4 setups are now, but if you manage it... I don't think Al would be displeased.

Good luck, Ricky.

Glad you are going to spend some time on DG, she is a good solid car so hopefully won't be too much bodywork to do, look forward to the up dates 👍

In all honest, I forgot I had brought his Cougar - I think after we had the conversation at the office I went off with it but then forgot all about it!
I’m going to get it picked up and delivered to mine to see if we can get it running again.

I'm sure you can. I understand why he lost patience with it, but I reckon some perseverence with the wiring will get you there.

Blimey Ricky that all sounds great. Am I right in thinking DG is/was a 2 litre? I do hope the engine gets changed for a 2.5 as I had a sportmans bet with Al that I would have the last 2.0 on the road in the country! :)

Note:- I have just sorn'd mine at the end of September for its winter rest in a nice warm dry garage

Haha - She will remain a 2ltr, for me DG will always be a 2ltr and maintain the looks that she always has.

The only difference will be under the bonnet, she will will have a modern uptake on it with a mahoosive turbo 🤣

The running gear for 4x4 is currently still in the looking phase, most breakers including the one John posted have sold theirs 😱

I’ll make another thread to avoid the new members section being cluttered and Andy telling me off 😁

This is a really weird one Tony. It's tricky to find absolute data about it because not many people have tried it. Ford themselves don't seem to have bothered with it either (probably not marketable?).

I'm no expert, but I suspect that the transmission you'd have to fit to get 4WD/RWD would be more durable than the standard MTX75. But you'd definitely be in test-pilot territory I think.

Wonder what the MK1 Mondeo touring cars used?

As far as I know in the super touring days gearboxes were fairly free items, i.e Hewland or Xtrac with mechanically controlled LSD. Sequential operation was also allowed, although possibly not from the very beginning of the formula.

Edit: beaten to it again😂
