Hi Guys,

I have had my 2001 V6 Cougar 2 for a couple of weeks now & I love it, such a smooth drive & the engine roars. It's been reasonably well cared for, I am going to have a couple of scratches & stone chips cleaned up then it will look as good as new.

There are one or two little problems that you may be able to help with...

01) The key fob doesn't work even though I have changed the battery, the little red light doesn't flash.
02) This may have something to do with the above but most of the time the central locking doesn't work & a lot of times I have to lock it round the passenger side. Also the boot doesn't open with the key. Is this a common problem & should I fix the locks before getting a new key sorted?
03) The windscreen washer jets aren't squirting, the motor is working but no juice & I have checked the levels.
04) Electric wing mirror control not working.

Apart from those few things which I want to fix she is running like a dream.

It's the original car with no mods but I will still take a few pictures when I have had the paintwork done.

If anyone has any ideas on how to sort the issues or where to go I am in the South Yorkshire area.

I look forward to reading through the threads.

All the best,

Screamer

Hey Screamer, hello and welcome aboard the mad house! lol

Hmmm....you have a few little problems...

1) You key fob needs to be re-programmed if you've changed the battery. There is a "How To" on here if you've paid your subs??

2) As above - think once the key has been re-programmed, it should work ok. Oh almost forgot - you need to press the keyfob twice to open the boot!...Yes, I did say twice! lol

3) The windscreen washer - the pipe can pop off from underneath. Put your hand underneath the front right hand side of the bumper (drivers side) and see if you can feel a lose pipe? If you can - feel where the nipple is that is fixed to the bottle - press home and hey presto, sorted! They can come off when they get cold through the winter, mine popped off last winter and I just did the above and it was sorted.

4) Electric mirror - could be a faulty wire or simply a fuse, not sure about this, but again, if you check the "How To" once you pay your subs, then I'm sure you'll find the answer.

Honestly mate, paying £18 will be the cheapest on-line manual you will ever have come across, as there is no Haynes Manual etc. for the Coug.

I'm sure if I have sent you up the garden path on some of the above, a few of the other members will be along shortly to help you out.

Best of luck.

Sounds right to me - the only thing i would add is the passenger door locking solenoids can be temperamental but you should hear the car at least trying to lock if the keys working properly

hiya mate, you've got a few niggles with your car but half the fun of owning a Cougar is working through them, don't worry though, you are in the right place to get them sorted and when that's done, the modding starts but you don't have to go mad and you don't have to break the bank either, there are always bargains to be had, welcome to the club mate and subscribing is the best way to get "ALL" the answers to all the problems you may encounter along the way. see you at a show sometime hey???

Andy.

Good move

Unless the solnoid has gone, does it unlock from the button in the car (drivers footwell)?

You cant do this on a C2 because of the splash-guard

I suspect if his doors don't lock from the passenger side then there is something going on with the electrics on the drivers door control

Hello to another good choice in car (y)

del boy alert:devilish:

With reference to problem 4, if that turns out to be the switch (as is a distinct possibility) i have a load of these for sale muchos cheapos:angel:

Welcome to the club

Hi Screamer
on item 3 if the water level in the bottle doe's not go down it could be the rubber valves between the bottle & pipe
I had this problem, remove them & give the valves a clear out sorted
hope this helps

Hi everyone,

Thanks so much for all the good ideas.

So far I have sorted out the central locking, just after my car was broken into :0(

The fob is now working perfectly :0)

Having a look at the washer jets on Friday & then will do the rest as my little project.

I will definitely be subscribing to the full monty, fantastic value for £18.

Gonna order some tail light covers from the states unless they are available through this forum, I will have a search around.

Thanks again for making me feel so welcome, I absolutely love my car :0)

hi mate welcome from a fellow c2 owner on the washer bit check if theres water on the floor under the front offside wheel as the tube does tend to come away it may just wants putting back on

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the tips.

I have paid my £18 & am now a fully fledged member.

01) The key fob works perfectly now because I got 02) fixed.
02) Central locking fixed, turns out it was the passeneger door mechanism that was overriding everything, cost a bit to fix but it's all good now.
03) The windscreen washer jets are working perfectly, needed the bottle & connections flushed out.
04) Electric wing mirror control still not working but I've bought some fuses & will have a look at the weekend.

Okay, so onto a few other things...

05) The tail light covers - Are the eyebrown versions better than the first edition covers? I definitely want some & will look to see where I can get a discount on here.
06) I have the Ford 6006 CD stereo but it is constantly skipping so I want to get an upgrade, does anyone have any thoughts on the best stereo for a cougar. I love the speakers & to be honest the sound from the Ford is quality when it plays.

Absolutely loving my Cougar, I'm so glad I got it.
