I Love My New Cougar 2

welcome (from another C2 owner)
6006 always problematic from day 1 - usually the playing of recordable cd's (which aren't suited to the unit) and dust/dirt cause havoc.
if you want to stay with the standard Ford type unit, the 6000 single CD unit is ok and will play recorded cd's
the mk1 Focus MP3 headunit will also fit - nice unit that can play MP3's from cd's too

if you wish for an aftermarket item, then sky's the limit!

Not strictly true is it Matt?

I meant pay your subscriptions and there is a world of information available on here :)

The cougar stereo is good, mind you the speakers are matched to the unit, so if you buy a non Ford unit they wont sound as good (they are only something like 20w) aftermarket as said is a big list, single DIN works well with an adaptor panel in the dash and even double DIN can be made to fit if you have the patience (oem is 1.5 DIN)

Thanks for the information tiff. I am liking the idea of the Mk1 Focus MP3 headunit, I have researched it & am I right in thinking it's only available in grey?
I am wondering how this will look in the Cougar? Definitely thinking about getting one though.

Thanks again.

Not sure it would go with the darker C2 dash myself, why not source a replacement 6006 unit, they are good units when they work correctly, my C2 had one before I sold it and replaced it with a JVC DVD based single DIN set.

They are good, the only thing that went wrong with mine is the security key thing broke slightly so had to be held in with some tape ;) other than that the convenience of having an in dash 6 disc changer was great....however compresed media is the way to go though as the i-pod etc. Will testify to.

Oh if you can find it mate there is a ford unit that was available as an option for the cougar with built in sat-nav too (think its a Bosch set up)

WOW! Definitely lovin the idea of a built-in sat nav. Would this just plug straight in or would I need additional wiring etc?

Thanks for the heads up Ginja

yes, mainly the MP3 headunit in grey is nice and doesn't look too out of place.
black-front ones are VERY rare...I have one in mine and took me a year of looking out for one..

I swapped to a 2 din unit with builtin satnav, had to trim a bit out of the plastic at the bottom of the opening but fits in snuggly, only extra wire is the one one for the gps antenna which i have routed behind the glovebox and around the upper dashboard so the antenna sits under my tax disk (y)

Matt, I don't agree. I have an aftermarket Kenwood in mine which pumps out 4 x 40 watt rms and is much better than the original Ford unit that was fitted albeit the 5000 unit (the only 6000 unit I have heard is in my mates Focus ST3, and my stereo out did his when we sat the two cars together in the carpark at work. Mine had more bass and also didn't distort at higher volumes like his did). Not bad for a £60 buy from Halfrauds!! lol :p

Read it again Tim lol the stereo will sound better even though its running through standard speakers as its not a OEM unit (which aren't known for their sound quality) but it won't sound better than an after market unit running through after market speakers :) i'm sure you have heard mine too mate, I replaced everything including the speaker cable.
