I needed a new car...

Clutch is a doddle...................if you're a nutter!! Which apparently I am, and Tony aka Topcat and Mark aka CharlieCD001!! We did my clutch weekend before Xmas, in the freezing ice with an ambient temp of about -8 degrees. Oh and it was outside!! Along for the joyous occasion were Paul aka Procomm and Mike aka Cougar571!!

Welcome on board mate, like the others have said, not a bad place to be ;)

See you around the boards,

Kully :)

Yes
No
Pita but more than enough on here have done it ;-)

Lol on a serious note it's a nice place to hang out and a very good bunch of guys and girls who if they can will help out in a fix I myself have had to beg help next month to replace a shot engine and have a venue and people being offered along with transporting the engine if I am really stuck, perfect example of the type of people that make this club a place i have enjoyed being for years.

JJ

I'm completely ignorant of this type of car, but am told that the wishbones aren't the pressed-steel type with nasty void bushes. So... I'm kind of not wanting to find out for myself, but have no fear if I have to. I still own three Rovers, so please be aware that I'm not afraid of the spanner. I've spent more on tools than I spent on my last car.

I've got to say that even as a non-premium member I've had a really nice welcome here. But you do know you can take the mick, right?

Kully, I did the same last February so I know what you mean. Kudos, sir. I hope you had someone to make you tea and toast at least!

Aye the Mrs was on hand with her Nan bless her as it was at her Nans we did the work. They've got a double car port which kind of kept most of the ice and wind off the front of the car. Her Grandad did the running to and from the house lol :)

Welcome to the club mate as has been said a great bunch of people on here and everyone is more than willing to pitch in and help out.

Your best bet it to try and pop along to any meets you can and don't worry about not knowing anyone as we are all friendly

hi and welcome on board chap try and get along to some meets and you will soon find out the lads and ladys are a good bunch and can sort most problems or point you in right direction i even get down to mk quite a bit and attend the meets there only a small road trip away from the hills lol

That's lovely. Ms. Mako does the tea and toasted sarnies thing, but she's used to it since I've had Rovers for 13 years, (before that it was Cadillacs, but that's a looong story). She used to work for Ford and is the main reason why there is a Cougar on the drive right now.

I need to work through the registration problem I have here - I'm sure it's me and not your site - but in the meantime I'd like to say thank you ever so much for not treating me like a 2nd-class citizen while I'm still a basic member. I promise not to abuse the hospitality.

Incidentally, is there a central register that you all keep of surviving Cougars? I know that the Skyline guys do this.

There's a reg directory compiled by us of members cars ad there's a "spotting" thread for anyone who spots a lurking moggy on their travels :)

I've seen the "Was it you?" sort of threads before for other marques, which can be quite fun and surprising.

Since mine was owned for years by a lady who loved it but isn't likely to be a member here (no, srsly - I did a dealer-level HPI on it and the trader knew her) it would be nice to add to the directory and interesting to see whether anyone knows the car. What do I need to do?

One last thing: According to Ms Mako I'm not allowed to go on about the Cougar anymore, but I think I'm allowed here. After 4 days' ownership I'm staggered by it. What an excellent car, and what a shame it didn't get the public uptake it deserved. Does anyone else find that the 2.0 Zetec likes being beaten up? Is that normal? I happily get 40MPG just wombling along, but even when I give it beans it's no lower than 32MPG.

Sorry - I'm probably talking about things that need to be in a different forum, but enthusiasm is hard to hide.

Thank you too, discodaddy. "Enjoying it" doesn't even come close.

I'm still a bit wary driving a manual, but it's a real screamer. The only problem is that now I'm wondering what the V6 would have been like...

I'm sure one of the bigboys would be happy to let you have a "test drive" at one of the meets. Problem with this is,(unlike me) you'll want one! :(:)

I have to go up and down the motorway every day. A V6 would just make no financial sense, no matter how much I liked it.

But if we're talking track car... well, I'll be asking you where you got that lovely body kit.

Welcome to the forum Chris, lovely looking Frosty you have, although I bet it doesn't stay looking standard for long.

ROUSH bodykits are now rarer than gold dust. Honestly!

I think that adds to the attraction, personally. That's a lovely-looking car, though I wouldn't road it every day. See below...

Thank you, Stribo. I have always been a modder, but not always in big ways. Mostly it'll be in custom bits that suit me, instead of kits. And I'll never again lower a car that doesn't have adjustable camber.

The standard Cougar is all the car I need right now, and covers all the bases that I had to modify other cars to achieve. I can't believe what I've been missing!

Havng said that, give me a week or two and I might get the itch. I'm already thinking about whacking on the carbon Viper sitting in my garage, waiting for a home...

Loving the look of the Rover Chris, not too O.T.T.(y)(y)

Well thank you, Stribo! Would you believe that I got her in 1998 as Mrs. Mako's Motability car? I inherited it a year later and applied my style. LOL

Anyway, the point is I learned a lot about modifying from that motor. I'll be more cautious now.
