Gosport (pompy)
Just found this on ebay and I think it's stunning 1.6 XR3i, just needs a tuned rs2000 engine. Must be the Essex boy in me. 1300 quid (asked if he will swap for my Cougar)

Chris, you'd be a nutter to part-ex for that! I'm with Al on this one, you'll regret it if you do.

Whats so bad about them? assuming the engine is ok (will make sure) and the body work is rust free

I would get it and do an rs2000 conversion for the power 400 quid

My oppo at the garage has a white one 2ltr Zetec blacktop conversion. I keep trying to hide his keys. Everytime he reverses it out of the garage it P****s down.
I've thretened to kill him if he comes to Ford fair in it ,it's bound to rain.:mad2::mad5::mad::prrr:

Personally, I just don't like them as think they are a girly/hairdresser car. If it was a hardtop then maybe, but still prefer the Cougar style and grunt. If you want a 90's boy/girl racer car then that's fine. Each to their own mate. If you like it, then that's all that counts.

This is the reason why i would never buy a car off ebay.... too many tossers about trying to take advantage of people and just being downright liars!!

chris please take some more frendly advise , having worked for ford you will be dissapointed mate , most the escorts suffer from major Tin worm the metal used in them is a shocking quality , im not talking surface rust im on about bulkheads , fire walls and battery trays for starters , most of which will have been bodged with body filler and expada foam , ive never seen a cab that the roof dosent leak badly and the floor pans are normaly as crispy as toast .Also putting a RS2000 lump is a good upgrade but you will need bigger brakes and a uprated gearbox , unless the 2000 engine is complete with gearbox . Gearbox's also suffer from diff bearings and abs pick up wheels are common as muck , antiroll bars bushes and lower arms are made of chocolate and as for electrics well there basic enough to re wire but dont expect to much from them . If it was a 1 owner from new and garaged every night and had less than 25k on the clock well it might be worth a look .
But mate its your choice but you will be dissapointed with the escort . Make sure you spend some serious time looking over the car because your cougar is 3 times the car

I have got to agree.... Although i absolutly loved my escort cabby and by the end it was a stunning looking little car it was not a patch on my cougar, the overall build quality on an escort is **** and it got to the point where as soon as one niggly fault was fixed another part would break.... That was a car with only 90k kms (around 50k miles) and also was spanish so no rain etc to deal with, luckily that meant no rust but with all the other things that broke it was a nightmare.

This was the last pic taken of my escort before it had it´s new paintjob...... unfortunatly 2 days after it came out i was hit in the side by someone speeding and it was written off, i was absolutly gutted!

I think this is excellent advice from a man 'in the know' and years of experience in the trade. Very useful stuff he has pointed out here. Lottysvdub - you are a great asset to this club so I'm giving you a thanks. :wink5:
