IMRC not as effective as it should be?

Just lately my Cougars felt a bit sluggish... you dont get that kick you'd expect at 3000rpm which I thought was me being used to it.

My friend was in the car and I had to accelerate quickly and he turned round and said "it doesnt feel any quicker than my 2ltr mondeo" which makes me think somethings not quite right lol.

The IMRC definitely works because it moves the arm etc, but Im thinking is it possible its not moving it enough?

Has anyone had any experience of them only half opening maybe? Im thinking of whipping the UIM/LIM off giving it a ruddy good clean lol

I know the v6 Cougar is a big heavy brute but Id expect it to be quicker than a mk2 2.0ltr mondeo lol.

Any thoughts are welcomed :)

check both secondaries are opening the clip that links them is prone to breaking with age.

Spot on

Just checked and although the IMRC is working, the bar isnt actually connected to anything! lol

I am going to have a better look when I finished work but i need to figure a way of making the arm stay in situ, the little plastic insert is long gone and I cant imagine they are easy to get hold of.

Still, nice easy fix though :)

Thanks again
Rich

FINIS is 3831141 - I think they're readily available, I remember buying some from my local stealer a year or so ago, somewhere around the 7 quid mark for two I think

How do you access it to see if its all in place ?, don`t think anything is wrong with mine but if its an easy job to see i might have a look in case.

I noticed mine was disconnected too.
I've got a couple of those circular spring devices, not a circlip. Essentially a washer that's too small to fit onto the end of the circular bar. Made of spring steel, got 4 splits from the centre hole that make two flaps. The flaps are pressed backwards so it'll drive onto the shaft but very hard to pull off again cos the flaps act like barbs to prevent it sliding back off. Not tried to fit it yet It ain't gonna be easy. Maybe this weekend. Plan is to remove at least the bellows to improve access.
Incidentally I had two in different sizes from my local engineering fixings supplier, Too small an item for them to bother with them raising the paperwork , just take em away please. So I did.

Starlocks?

It's funny this topic should come back to life because my imrc has failed. Well the imrc hasn't but the cable has snapped! So if anyone has a imrc for sale either broken or otherwise I'd love to know about it :)

As per usual, I have acquired a couple of them for free (paid for with labour).

Either is available to you for free, but their transistors have failed. So if your problem is just the cable, you might make one good out of two bad...

Come and get it, or sort yourself some Cougarforce. I've got some guys coming here next weekend who may be able to ferry it at least part of the way to you.
