Is it worth buying a mk2 mondeo Haynes manual for a quick reference to my v6 cougar. I know the cougar is based on the mondeo, but is it that closly related?

I have one for reference - engine and a lot of the running gear are the same.
truth be told I've hardly used it but for the four quid it cost from eBay it's useful to have in the garage.

Yes - a lot of the stuff regarding 'the stuff you can't see' is covered at least in part by the Mondeo manual. and the other stuff is so similar that you can use the Mondy stuff as a place to start.
Engine, gearbox, cooling system, AC, suspension, braking etc. are all the same or near as dammit.

Lol al,i had them because i had a mondeo before the cougar and haynes also made one for mondeos for 1999 to 2000,then the mk3 2000 to 2003 also one for the astra and another for the astra/ belmont and not forgetting my sierra sapphire so i have a few of them now

Yes, I was given one from my dad who used to own a mk2. It came in handy a while back when I was doing my rear subframe.

No kidding, i had to throw a stack of haynes manuals a couple of years back, a stack 4ft high at least and all those you mentioned Paul were included. I think i've still got some more somewhere, i do know i have a couple of original Capri/Cortina/Escort owners handbooks.
