Jon Gibbon

Jon had asked for a party to be held in his honour and they certainly didn't disappoint. They'd started out at 2 in the afternoon and the place was still rammed when we arrived at 7.30. and didn't really thin out until almost closing time. There were old school friends of Jon as well as his fellow football fans and the regulars who'd all come together to celebrate his life.
It's been a fair while since I've had the pleasure of visiting an obviously very successful local pub which hasn't been forced to go down the 'gastro pub' route to maintain it’s popularity. (y)

The tribute is beautiful, and shows Jon how I remembered him: fit, well and happy.

Last time I saw him he was... slim. Emaciated. I literally didn't recognise the man. In fact, when he walked up and shook my hand, I didn't know who he was initially. Couldn't believe it was the same person.

I have no way of contacting Robbie - and wouldn't try - but I hope he knows that the club's tribute and the pub's memorial is exactly how I would want Jon to be remembered.

And perhaps this is an opportunity for all of us to remember what a lovely guy he was, and aim to be the same ourselves.

Peace, my friends.

Folks, I'd like to set up a request for Jon's preferred charities. Things that he really cared about and that some of you might do also.

Jon loved animals, as many of us always knew. Although he never had time to say it directly, he supported the Cats Protection League and a local (to him) rabbit sanctuary - "Eddy's Sanctuary".

I will be accepting donations to these two charities via PayPal. And I'll give every donator a receipt for what they've given, just as I did with Al and Vonny at orion4000@hotmail.com

Of course, I will gift-aid the donations but if you want to claim the tax credit, please donate directly and let me know.

Thank you, Andy.

£80 received, which I will match for £160. Whatever the club wants to add is absolutely fine by me. Please let me know by DM and I will contact the charities to get the funds to them, then present the receipts here.

For my part, I think both charities are very worthy and I hope that Jon would be happy. Peace, all.

Gratefully received, thank you Andy.

Tomorrow, I'll work out how to donate to the charities, (I suspect that CPL will be easier, LOL!) and will provide confirmation - £100 each.

If anyone else wants to donate before 1pm tomorrow, please do so.

In the meantime, I want to say I know that many of you will have Jon in mind and, if next time you raise a glass, make a cup of tea, or even just stroke your pet and you want to remember him... Please do. I know he'd like that.
