thoughts please, ive just been asked if i would swap my mongy for a 2003 lexus is200.never had dealings with a lexus so any advice would be appreciated chaps

I've always quite liked the IS200, all I know is they're sold under the Toyota Brand in Japan, they just call them a Lexus over here. Think it was Toyota Altezza in Japan - had some decent engines in Japan so Toyota versions can be quite sort after.

Sorry I don't know anything useful about them though

What age/model is your mondeo?

They were basically Toyota's facsimile of a BMW 3 Series. Straight 6 (longitudinally mounted) engine and rear wheel drive, coupled with Toyota reliability and loads of toys. Lovely cars.

quick cars with a 6 speed box, rear wheel drive and vvti. I had one as a curtosy car when the Primera was in for repairs. All the toys and comfortable. Think 140 mph 3 piece suite! Drive well, pull like a train and handling is comfortable and fun with the TC off. Its the same engine as the N/A Supra

thanks guys, having a think about it as its also 2 groups better off in the insurance stakes and my mongy is 2002 ghia x v6

I don't think insurance groups count for much these days, at least not until you reach 20.
Insurance companies just make it up as they go along.

I bet chances are, with jap parts having a reputation of being more expensive, higher market value and more modern car, it'll be more costly to insure. Plus there's the 'admin fee' for changing.

theres me feeling good lol, well tried to contact the guy back but heard nothing so maybe pie in the sky for me then

I was looking at one of these after seeing one at the motorshow, didn't know they are rwd. Like them though.

Yep that was their big selling point when they were first introduced. It was felt that RWD was the only way to compete with the C-Class and 3-series. Audi has picked up all the ex-BMW drivers who wanted to go faster than everyone else but in truth had very little feel for their car and found RWD a bit too "scary" as a consequence, so argueably the Lexus could have been FWD, but then it would have been hard to fit in a nice straight 6 engine and it would have ended up just being another Carina/Avensis which parent company Toyota definately didn't want.

Like others have said - good cars.

If you can do it I'd go for it, depending on condition and mileage etc the Lexus should be worth double what the Mondeo is worth

And therein is the confusing bit - why would they want to swap a car of greater value for one of less value?

Still, good car is the IS200 - solidly built, reliable and comfortable. As has been mentioned, a 140mph sofa :)

went to have a nosey and a test drive of 318 ci es coupe tonight and not to bad i may say so,rear wheel drive though
