Hi again, back after 2yrs and picked up Cougar yesterday after a 120 mile round trip. A 99 V plate with 87k miles. needs a good clean and valet though.. and possibly the matching blue sticker down each side removing. Bought it from a guy who only had it since Aug but his new arrival meant not much room for baby seat etc. he bought it off a guy who was a uk cougar member who had had it since 2005. had a full sport cat stainless exhaust fitted in 2010 with induction kit. few niggles but not expensive parts luckily. Although the gear stick feels really sloppy and loose, no problem getting gears though. hope its an easy fix. :censored:

Sorry for late replies and its a small world but yes it was matt's car i've just bought. seen the for sale thread posted on here. Nice bloke and very honest as to what wanted doing. its booked in for the few bits and just ordered some drilled/grooved discs and pads. My girlfriend drove me down to pick it up and wanted to drive it the last few miles back. never heard the car revved so much.. The decal on the sides are growing on me and just the sloppy gearlever to sort.. just deciding on which wheels to get next..any idea what other wheels will fit?

Hi Craig,

Glad you got back safely with the Cougar!

Gear changes - always went in perfectly but it was sloppier than my first Cougar in that the gearstick moved back and forth once it was in gear. I think I might know what it is but as it never affected gear changes I didn't pursue it much further.

If you look up a bit behind the Passenger front wheel you will see the end of the gear change cables (bright orange adjusters on them) I think the rubber has worn in the front one due to it sitting right behind the inner CV boot. This allows the eye on the end of the cable to move a few mm before it pulls the peg. I'm fairly sure if you could find a new rubber to go on there it would solve that. I got used to it!

It does sound nice when rev'd doesn't it! I'm just getting used to how slow the Volvo is in comparison!

I hope you enjoy it!

Welcome dude, nice cat you have acquired

Don`t listen to Richardb, he`s grumpy again, happens every day

He`s actually quite a nice guy when you meet him (that`s ruined your image Rich) :)

Sir, you should wash out your mouth at once, on both counts!!
