Hi All,

I have a 1999 Ford Cougar 2.5 and have bought the ST200 intake system, but how do I know if my Cougar has the Lower Intake Manifold already fitted, without measuring the diameter of the inlets?

Cheers

Neil:cry:

Hi Neil, welcome to ukcougar.com, your in the right place for all things cougar related, as well as some crazy banter. You will also be able to find all the fixes you need in our subscriber sections. Have a browse around the open forums and get a feel for the place. Remember! ukcougar.com is the only workshop manual for the big cat. Re the manifold, my guess is to take off the uim and compare them but, some V6 guys should be along soon.

It has something to do with portion of the fuel rail, visible through the gaps in the UIM. There are two types, one has square edges, the other has rounded edges. Later cars were equipped with the larger diameter (ie same as the ST200) LIM and these are identifiable by the type of fuel rail fitted, but I can't remember whether the rounded or squared-off type is the later one. If you put 'LIM' in the search engine, there have been numerous threads on the subject before and at least one of them will yield the answer.

Please disregard the above post - nothing to do with the fuel rail but the place you need to look is pretty close.
Running parallel to the fuel rail are the injector looms (x2). Check the black plastic covers for these looms.
If they have a flat top, you have the older/smaller LIM.
If they have a curved top, you have the larger LIM (same size ports as the ST200). (y)

Oh, and welcome Neil. There's much more knowledge to be unlocked in the subsciber areas of the forum - well worth the subscription fee. :)

Please disregard the above post

Bit rude, Manos.

Pretty much what I said. OK, so the part you're looking at is a cover for the injector loom, rather than the fuel rail. We all make mistakes and I stand corrected, the part about looking for a 'squared off' or 'rounded edge' (ie another way of wording 'flat top' or 'curved top') was accurate though. I don't think telling Neil to 'disregard the above post' was warranted.

In my book, best to post an accurate answer rather than one that isn't 100%.
If you look at the fuel rail (instead of the injector looms) you'll find that they're all rounded as they're tubular. Therefore the LIM could have been wrongly identified.

Sorry if my 'please disregard' message was a bit abrupt.
