Thank you Erictheking dude.

Its good that you followed your instincts, because who knows what the problem might have been. All in all, they all look great whatever colour.

It was pulling badly to one side as i drove it and the fella said he had to do "a little welding on the rear subframe" he had another 4 or 5 cars in his driveway also for sale and seemed a bit on the dodgy...gotta say i was almost hypnotised by the black beauty tho!!! I gotta say im more than happy wiv the medina tho....better car all round

Eric; it's in your first post too, but the colour is Melina Blue or more commonly known as Blurple.;)

oooops...melina, glad u spotted my deliberate mistake... :-/
while were on it, i can only find a melina pearlescent touch up kit in halfords...im sure my cars just metallic and not pearlescent....or is that only finish ford done???

Hmm

watching this with interest as my front discs also need replacing, had provisionally settled on the Mintexes but after this, not so sure...

My old setup was Black Diamond Discs with EBC Greenstuff pads, but that was on an under-braked car (not my Cougar) that had a poor servo from the factory.

My Cougar stops on a sixpence on standard discs and pads, so I'm not looking for a major upgrade. But if there's something out there that suits my driving and lasts well, I'm happy to go for it. Might be that Everton's experience was an edge-case, but I'll give it a go as long as they're not actually going to kill me.

Interesting, admittedly I have only used the Cougar briefly but my first impressions of the brakes are that they are not good at all.

Again my experience is limited but the one occasion I braked hard I was pretty concerned, now of course this way well be down to the poor condition of what's on there - discs are scored pretty badly and the edges are very rusted - but certainly from browsing around this forum there are plenty of comments that suggest the brakes are a pretty weak point in general.

Personally I think I am still leaning towards the Mintex discs despite the above comments, never heard a bad word against them before so this seems to be an isolated incident

Aagh - decisions decisions :)

They won't snap your neck like a Vauxhall Astra's will (or anything French for some reason) but I've been forced into two emergency braking situations in my Cougar and they've done their job and were perfectly usable afterward. Can't complain, but maybe I don't know any better.

Disclosure: I've spent the last 20 years driving Rovers. Their brakes are catastrophically bad.

To be honest iv not had any problem with the braking..seems fine to me. Im leaning toward the mintex on price alone, so long as i dont hear anymore baf comments about them. Iv seen the brembo on ebay at a very favourable price compared to fords, its another option.

There is also ferodos too !. I've got the upgraded st170 discs and mondeo 3 callipers running Pagid discs and pad they are excellent!

Good buy on the colour, lol i have had mintec grooved and dimpled ones from ebay and :) very happy with them.

I shopped around for pads and got mintex pads, from livingston autos. Along with the oil filter 5/30 fully syn and other bits.
