If you go for the quietest option Martyn (this just involves more sound resonator boxes being fitted to the exhaust to quieten it, 3 in total) & makes no difference whatsoever to the increased performance of the exhaust, only the sound...........so yes, you get the same gains as everyone else, regardless of the sound.

The sports cat will also improve the gas flows, as it has a larger bore on the honeycomb inside the cat converter, thus helping the gases to flow more freely & adding up to another 5bhp.

I'd really like to hear Jamie's take on this, there must be some reason the car was designed to be fitted with precats & a main cat, though beats me why??

Personally, to be on the safe side, I'm going with a sports cat that will give the same gains as a precat.(y)
 
my Astra had this a pre cat and a main cat, i drilled out the pre cat. its just their to control emissions when the car is cold. and when the car is to its normal operating temperature the pre cat is not needed. so in essence you dont need the pre cats as mot emissions are done at normal operating temps


someone correct me if im wrong.

So have I got it backwards? :eek:ut:

I thought the precats would take care of the emissions and hence not needing the main cat (and so it would pass an MOT with a decat fitted)? :skep:
 
i think the idea of both cats was for the US market emissions,over here you can get away with one lot of cats so it would be one (both precats) or the other (maincat) could be removed, but NOT both, i'm sure that is what has been said, but might have misunderstood
