:geek: Hi Guys! Looking to upgrade my head unit in the mondeo st220.(Double dim) Just wondered if any of you guys have heard anything about fitting one in the mondeo? I heard some people have had to hacksaw bits:eek: to make it fit properly! Many thanks

When I had an upgraded head unit fitted in my mk3 Mondy mate I was told the standard one wasn't actually a double din size. I had a single din fitted with a facia adaptor.

I think we'll need a bit more info about which HU you are wanting to replace and which Ford/Sony? unit you want to fit. A couple of photos would help.

Early Mk3's had the same size units and plugs as the Mk2 and Cougar and the codes where specific to the HU's. They then changed to double din with quadloc plugs and the CANBUS system where the codes are specific to the vehicle and not the HU.

I first wanted to fit a 4 channel amp.But i was told there was no pre-outs for the amp,at the back of my H.u. But i was told i could fit rca inline converter leads!I Also heard by fitting the inline rca converter leads it could effect the quality of the set up and the inline rca converter leads for a 4 channel amp was £30.So i thought, ten year old h.u and the price of the leads. i may as well fit a updated h.u.

Which HU have you got now?
Is your's a pre- or post- facelift car?
Its the sony cd 132-cd 6 found in the 2004 -2007 ghia and st220.pre -facelift many thanks

If I remember correctly, the later units link in to the CANBUS system that the earlier cars don't have. You'd be better off with a good quality aftermarket head unit and upgrading the speakers (y)
