As title, our Frosty has passed her first MOT since I bought her last year! A couple of routine advisories that are going to be sorted next week but other than that all's well :) The garage was very complimentary towards the old Cat.
I'm thinking of spending a bit of money to get the car even more awesome than it is already, so just wondering...
What are everyone's thoughts on Waxoyling? I'm having mine done as one of the advisories was a bit of rust underneath, will it make a difference? I'll perhaps get my Puma done as well. Also, how much should I expect to pay for Air Con to be re-gassed? Does it have to go to a Ford garage for that job? How much would a re-spray be and does anyone know a good place in/near Mansfield that would do it?
Cheers

Nice one. I don't think any rustproofing will do any harm!
You might find KwikFit good for the aircon, I think they have some kind of guarantee that it will be colder!

nice one on the pass......was keeping mine standard when I got it a couple of months ago....that idea lasted about ten minutes..:)

Definately get the rust treated/cured before waxoiling. Try to get the wax into the box sections as well as into the rear quarter panels. https://forums.ukcougar.club/threads/24604-Nasty-chassis-(Rust-worm)

Kwikfit are ok for A/C and they do promise to make your ac cooler than it is, but bear in mind if your ac is dead, they don't have to improve a great deal to increase it's performance. Also remember that as well as keeping the car cool in summer , it's the best demister you can use in the winter, it eats condensation.(y)
I can highly recomend Hardwick Motor Company at Sutton-in-Ashfield. I paid £25 for the full regass service plus a nice scented air freshener. Remember to get the new filter put in also.

congrats on the pass!

as for waxoiling it is no good for getting rid of rust the rust must be removed/treated first then waxoil added.
use underseal with waxoil for underneath and waxoil spray for all the internal box sections and sills..
the main sections that suffer are just behind front wheel floor jacking point ,sills and rear box section just in front of the rear wheels..

also pay attention to the subframe at the back ,they tend to rot from the inside out so get the waxoil inside there and coat the outer part with underseal.

Wire cup brush to her belly, and be brutal. Don't tickle it - get rid of all the rust, no exceptions. Pay particular attention to the front inner sills, which are a weak point. Be honest with the car and don't cheat on it; if it needs welding, now's the time. Having done that, paint it with Hammerite direct-to-rust paint.

And only once you've done that, go at it with the underseal. I strongly recommend Bilt-Hamber Dynax UB. Get a spray can of it with the 360[SUP]o[/SUP] lance, and a 2-litre can of the paint-on stuff. It's self-healing, so if it gets scratched it pulls itself together again. I've deliberately "damaged" the stuff and giggled like an idiot watching it self-heal.

Use the lance to inject the sill voids; take the door-shut carpet runners off and use the holes to put the lance in and spray. Be generous with it.

Next, paint the whole length of the sills, inner and outer, with the paint-on stuff. Inspect both the front and rear subframes and decide whether you want to drop them, but at the very least consider basting them with underseal.
