Left my car at the garage last night for its mot at 8.30 this morning, well just got word it's failed, but it's only a bit of welding and a bulb £180 max including the price of the mot so pleased really looking forward to picking her up after work with new mot

You appear to have taken that hit in good humour.

I tend to think with these cars now if an MOT costs you less than £150 all in then its not a bad year :)

My first mot with the car only had her 11 months anything under £200 was going to be a result going to carry on replacing parts so next year's will go through to

My car has never cost more than the MOT cost ( £20 ) in 5 years. But I do keep on top of it with everything as and when it needs it. I guess this year coming could be a bit different given the hole I found. Given the age of these cars now, I think it will start to get more expensive each and every year from now on in for most of us.

As said, the whole idea of the MOT is to start picking off vehicles that need serious remedial action so it logically follows that any vehicle as it ages will stand less and less chance of passing.

The whole thing can be fluke anyway to an extent, plenty of 25 year old builders' Transit tippers scrape a pass with a list of advisories running in to four pages but there is nothing 'technically' to reject whilst a rather well looked after three year old car can be rejected on a small cut on the inside wall of a tyre....

I am sure they will not be anything major Si, I was a bit nervous because it my first mot with the car, I can now get on with my plans for the car

As a post note I had advisory on the mot, nearside and offside floor to sill corroded full length this rust has now been cleaned out and replaced that takes it to £450 I have spent on welding in the last year don't get me wrong I am not moaning about it, its about keeping the car, the one thing I would say keep a eye on the underneath of your car check it regular watch out for cracks in the underseal were water can get in if you see any signs of rust get it seen to it only get worse
