Near Misses

Some interesting footage there Jovis - the second one with the truck was on Yahoo News the other day.

It's precisely that sort of thing that makes me so annoyed at constantly being told to 'Think Bike'. No, not all bikers are lunatics, hell bent on an early grave, but not all car drivers are hell bent on rubbing out innocent bikers. I've personally had and witnessed a few near misses with bikers myself over the years, each and every one caused by the biker in question cutting up myself or other car drivers. As I say, the label doesn't apply to all, but if a few more bikers 'Think Car' then the roads would be a safer place for them.

I agree.

I personally think all drivers should be made to do a CBT in their early years of driving however. It really does make you think about bikes a a lot more.

I think they're two separate issues. The old classic "SMIDSY" crash is the sort of thing which compulsary CBT might help with. But then there's the weekend warrior biker who's bought something he can't really handle and rides it like a complete tool; probably because he's not a long-in-the-tooth biker who spent his teenage years falling off 125s and realising how much it hurts without having to involve another vehicle.

There's only so much a car driver can do to avoid the weekend-warrior on a Ninja, and there's only so much good day-glo jackets and reflective bands will do to preserve himself from the BMW X5 driver who can't even be bothered to swivel their head on their neck at a T-junction.

When you live near the cat and fiddle in derbyshire you see a lot of bikers and even now with cameras you still get tools ,have come off a few bikes myself and yes it dose hurt and give you a wake up call most of mine were off road and the last one left me with a foot peg though my heel and it was my own fault but on the road i have always been on the look out for bikes as i have used my self and know how a bit of speed gives you the rush,in the right place.
