need a new engine!!! help!!!!

hello everyone iv just joined the club. my engine on my v6 cougar has just seized up and i love the car and i dont wana scrap it. i just need to know what my options are do i get another v6 cougar engine or is there any conversions i can do to put a bigger engine into it if so what would be your suggestions. if anyone could help please write back on here or email me at dharman@live.co.uk thank you!!!!

if you're not a paid up member i'd suggest spend £18 and join up , best investment you'll ever make ! lots of options available, standard engine , st200 or the bolton mafia now do an st220 conversion !

Replacement standard V6 engines are fairly easy to come by. You should have no trouble sourcing one and getting it swapped over for well under a grand. If you're swapping engines anyway though, I'd be tempted to go for either an ST200 (still 2.5 but with uprated guts and a bit more oomph) or ST220 (3.0 and significantly more powerful). The labour charge for the swap will be pretty much the same for all three, so it's just down to your choice of lump. I know they're a trek from you (I imagine you'd need to trailer your car there if your lump is already seized), but by far the best the place to get the work done is B&M Autos is Bolton. Affectionately known within the club as 'The Bolton Mafia', their work is of the highest quality, the proprietor (Nick) knows Cougars inside out, back to front and upside down and the labour rates are very reasonable too.

thanks mate il definatly join up iv looked on a few forums like piston heads and a few people have suggested a x- type jag engine or a mazda or probe engine are these possible or should stick to a st or standard cougar engine thanks

cheers thanks for the advice goin to bolton could be a option iv got a friend who can fit a engine for me its just wot to put in it. im thinking of buying a spares and repairs and taking out the engine and sell the rest for parts i just dont know what be the cheapest and best option

depends how much you want to spend ! the bolton mafia have just done a st220 conversion , that would be my choice !

None of those mentioned will work. Go for a standard or ST200 one if your friend is doing it but tbh it's far more worthwhile getting BM to put the ST220 engine fitted cost is stupid cheap for what you are getting out of it, plenty of info in the subscribers areas on the conversion.

I think Dyg's worked out at around £1500 fitted, including the purchase price of the engine.

Again if your going to mod difference in cost of engine (labour is the same pretty much) you may as well go st220 and mod that.

The V6 is quite a hard beast to extract majorly more power from. About the most you'll get from an ST200 (which puts out 203BHP in standard trim) is around 220ish BHP and it'll cost you a few hundred or so to get there. The ST220 will give you this (possibly slightly more) as standard with potential to approach 250BHP. Of course you CAN get more out of any of the three if you start messing around with things like superchargers (has been done in the past and achieved 350BHP) and turbos (never been done in this country as far as I know, but a few have in America) but you're looking at Sell Your Kids money for either of those two.

If you do go down the 220 route - make sure you get the ECU too

Also it's not just as simple as a swap, the mounts etc need work as far as i know,? to enable the 220 lump to fit as it's higher than the St200 or Cougar lump.. the best person to do this would be the Bolton Mafia as they are the first to successfully complete a 220 swap..

iv just found a st220 engine on ebay but it hasnt got the alternator or coils could i use the alternator or coils from my car?
