not got one yet but bin thinking about it for some time now iwas on the boards s few months ago when i was going to buy one. some nice ones about but ive heard soma horror stories about these cars im still not sure. think i like a black one but mebe silver? I like a v6 but they look really hevy and complicated so might go for the 2.0 liter as its easier for me. has any body else got a zetec cos you all seem to have big v6s?
they old cars and i hear about rust and subframes rotting awy? is that dangerous? can ythe be replaced? is it just a mondeo with 2 doors less i been told that.
i seen a nice blue one near my street i might buy it if its not rotten or i might get the black one. do they all have a sunroof?
thanks Sam.

Hi Sam.
At least 1 prominent member (Al @Pid_16v) has a Zetec, well personalised.
The V6 is the simple way to more performance and higher petrol bills.
Bodywork can be repaired, engines, brakes and suspension are typical Ford.
In the UK the Zetecs all came with fabric interiors, the V6 optionally leather.
Sunroof was optional, early ones had less robust runners.
There were two styles, original and facelift, we've been calling them C1 and C2 on here but we've just learned that C2 was also the label for a US market special; original were available in Silver Frost, Melina Blue, Tourmaline Green and Ebony Black, facelift dropped the blue and green was replaced with Amazon Green; some Laser Red also slipped in but weren't officially offered; US got lots more colours and options but of course those are LHD.

My apologies, I thought it was a wind up :)

Sorry Sam, yeah they're really good

Hi Sam and welcome to UKCc.
Like most things it comes down to personal choice, colour, engine etc. As already said above, the V6 in standard trim is more refined than the 2.0ltr zetec but also as said, that engine is a big lump in the V6.
Providing you've made those two choices, the next thing would be to go find a good example. Check the sills really well and don't be afraid to give them a good squeeze or even a good slap with the palm of your hand, listen for a load of "stuff" bouncing about inside.
That and rear subframe imo are the two biggies to check. Subframe is a fairly easy swap if it needs doing and once we actually know your location even a few bacon butties and tea etc will usually cover the costs of some of our good members to pay you a friendly visit .
I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for and when you do, take plenty of photos for us all to see. Oh to answer your last point: If you've driven an early mondeo ie: Mk1/Mk2, you will see a lot of similarities both under the bonnet and interior.

Welcome to the club. Just a suggestion offer enough bacon and someome close enough might check the cars out with you. Id help but since Im not there it would cost you quite a bit more then bacon.

I've honestly only ever owned LHD V6s. And I've had I think ummmm 5 of these maybe 6. The V6 is where its at if you want power without spending a buttload of money for a car thats fun to drive. HOWEVER, I do believe they had an actual bolt on supercharger for the Zetec. You're not getting a supercharger or turbo under the hood of a V6 without relocating a few things and having a thread of fabricator in you. As for color. Silver is awesome for minor blemishes not being as noticeable. Minor scratches stuff like that. Its an easier color to make look good. However, black is just amazingly sexy and grabs you by the nether region and says look at me Im amazing.

:) :) :)

I have a Zetec! But then I had a V6 for some years and to be honest I'm happy with either. I love the looks of the car and the fact it shares a lot of Mondeo parts is an advantage as far as I'm concerned.
Whats much more important is that this club is the best car club you'll ever be in which is why I've stuck with the Cougar for so long, if you stay around you'll make brilliant friends for life and have a great time.

Hello and welcome. Like you I lurked for quite sometime before getting my Cougar (a V6, but it was gifted from a family member), but had a good feel for the club and the car prior to getting in there.

I think you'll be happy with either model as they both have their pros and cons. To be honest I'd look around with an open mind and view them based on the overall condition and history, rather than limiting yourself to the engine you opted for (assuming insurance etc is not a problem).

Most options can be retro fitted anyway if you're keen to have something that's missing from a particular example.

Best of luck and post any questions or queries you have, you'll get some great help for here.

Despite needed steering rack recon and new wishbones in the first few months - I have never ever regretted getting my Kitty.
Great fun car to drive and sound lovely (v6 that is :) )
And right now they can be picked up dirt cheap.

I have to agree on the V6 part.
Yes it's juicy, round town (very short journeys for me (around 1-2 miles)), I get around 'wait for it'.
11-12 mpg.
Maybe my right foot doesn't help.
