Hello all.

I'm currently in the process of buying a 2001 V6 Cougar and just thought i'd introduce myself. I'm currently waiting on the garage I bought it from to fix a few issues with the electrics in the car and with any luck i'll be picking it up tomorrow!

I was supposed to pick it up today but the chap rang me and said they're still having some problems with the blowers not turning off ... Which was dissapointing.

All well and good I should have it before tomorrow is out!

Thanks for having me here (y)

Welcome to you!

Did they tell you exactly what they were doing (and what the problem was) or were they pretty vague?

Thanks for the warm welcome!

When I went to view the car there were a number of faults. Drivers side electric window wouldn't work, cabin light didn't work, electric mirrors, digital temp display and the blowers wouldn't work at all. I offered to purchase it on the proviso that they would sort all this out ... That was a week and a half ago, i've been bounced back and forth by them but I really do love the car so i'm being patient.

They fixed the faults and got it MOT'd with some replaced track rod ends and a new headlamp when I got a call from the guy and he said how the blowers wouldn't turn off/down ... Said the electrician is coming first thing in the morning to look at it. I've been waiting that long i'm half tempted to tell him to forget it, knock me a bit of money off and let me take it to my mechanic.

Not saying this is YOUR issue, but often on Fords the blowers can go haywire (only work on x-speed, full speed or not at all) as the default for the fan is to run at full speed, there are a set of resistors (or a variable one) that are used to vary the speed by basically resisting the voltage to the motor. If these resistor(s) pack up it can cause weird happenings (mk2 Mondeo's cant, by the virtue of this system turn their blowers entirely off...) I'm not sure if it's shared with the Cougar.

A decent autospark should be able to repair the 'pack' with minimum effort if that is the case.

Thanks for the info benham. That puts things in a clearer light for me, You sound like you know your stuff! The guy said he would call me in the morning so i'll see what he has to say. Hopefully this guy he's got coming is half decent.

And scunnycougar, I'm living in Wheatley at the moment.

Blowers on full, interior lights inop, and dial sweep is usually just a fuse, seen it loads of times.

Thanks for that, I cleaned up my duplicate posts! (y)

Well, you guys have restored my faith as it sounds like this problem should be an easy fix. With any luck i'll have my big cat tomorrow and can take a few pictures.

If the driver's window turns out to be the motor I have a spare in the garage.

In fact I have loads of spares up for grabs :)

Hey, it's my better-looking alter ego!

Welcome aboard.

I had an issue with the blowers sticking on full (including full heat) and it turned out just to be a fuse that needed changing. I remember it also doing a full dial sweep on ignition too, so if yours does that it might be worth looking into.

Ahhh, mine does the dial sweep thing also ... The blower turned out to be a bad connection on one of the buttons apparrently but i'm happy to say that she's now sat in my drive and I couldn't be happier. It's a wonderful car to drive and I felt instantly comfy the moment I set off in her. Just need a name for her now!

And I may have to take you up on that window motor spjmorris ... While the window does work now, it's very sluggish and doesn't sound very nice. Other than that, she's going in for a service on Thursday just to keep on top of things.

I am so excited right now.
