Hey, i bought my 1998 V6 Cougar a couple of months ago, everyone said that i rushed into it but fell in love with the moment i sat in it. the problem is im have teething problems little niggly things that i would like to sort out myself or find a cheap way to.
i.e heated seats dont work (not electrical) stutters in third and fourth gear especially when heaters on which btw not get above 15 degrees! eletric window on driver side keeps losing power, everyone who knows me wants me to fail with this car but no way am i going to give up on her....... i will add pics shortly as she is in a beautiful condition. Can someone please advise how i subscribe cant find a link anywhere.

Thanks for listening haha Tracy x

Oh yeah the main bug bear is the flickering dash and head lights, which i have been told is due to an overcharging alternator or an earth wire, need help badly haha x

hello Tracy, welcome to cougar ownership :) Your heated seat may just be the fuse, drivers side window sounds like a faulty switch, heater may just need the Viakal treatment and the stuttering in 3rd and 4th may be down to the secondaries, sure someone will come along and clarrify for you, really helpful bunch on here (y) Once again Welcome

Hi Tracy and welcome to ukcougar.com, your in the right place for all things cougar related, as well as some crazy banter. You will also be able to find all the fixes you need in our subscriber sections. Have a browse around the open forums and get a feel for the place. Remember! ukcougar.com is the only workshop manual for the big cat.

All your problems are minor ones. The window switch probably just needs removing and a good clean with wd40.
The stuttering could be either the linkage for the secondary throttles or the EGR valve, both very minor fix's.
The flickering is usually due to the alty as you rightly suggest, and is again a known issue easily fixed with a single wire modification. I'm sure somebody who has done this will be along soon.
Whats more, all these fix's are in the forums "HOWTO" sections.

Hi Tracy and Welcome. Hope you get it all sorted easily and enjoy many happy miles with your big moggy :)

Hi Tracy from a fellow lady Cougar owner. Also had the "don't buy one thing",was told to get a nice little Mazda!

Had mine since October and had a few probs, hose clip broke and had to call the Yellow van man. Also just had the power steering oil cooler leaking (luckily still 5 days in warranty so new one put on by garage)
Also got the light flickering, will have to try and sort it.
As everyone said when I joined here, you drive with a constant smile on your face and it's very true. :)

There's one born every minute!:eek::eek::eek:

Only Joe King, very easy to fix most of that.

Welcome to the club.

Welcome Tracy!! Ditto everything that has been said above :) When it comes to fixing some of the niggles, help is never far away on here. You will find everything you ever need to know about your Cat in this place and have lots of fun along the way.!!! Enjoy!

welcome Tracey - the aircon can cause a stutter though normally its through the range. Note aircon is always on with the windscreen setting so try turning it back to the half windscren/half feet setting and see if it makes any difference.

great car to drive so enjoy and watch the jealousy gradually creep in amongst your doubters!!

if they carry on laughing give us their address and next time we are in blackpool we will put 30 cougars up their drive :LOL::LOL:

Hi All,
Missed the meet due to life commitments haha, thanks droid fixed window now well pleased, still having issues with a new one now, she keeps stalling at lights or roundabouts apparently its the breather pipes which the mechanic cleaned, but started again after a week im now been told it may be the lambda sensor??? im hoping this is what is causing the stuttering which only happens when i am at a constant speed and stops when i accelerate. just want this fixed as i love her so much lol x
