New Cougar owner!

hi
welcome to the club..
all cats roar u know:)

is it just at 30 or at any speed..does the noise stop if u dip the clutch pedal...lots of help and advise on here but you'll need to become a full member..trust me its well worth the money(y)

Any speed, and no continues when coasting, so nothing to do with drive going to the wheels, which perhaps does point to tyres

and yes the welcom you guys have given has been great, signing up now

Just another quick question, now I'm fully signed up, which is the best coolant to top up with as the light comes on when starting from cold?

I would imagine the same colour as whats in there, there are some available that mix with all types though. Top it up to slightly over max too - if its dead on the line the light might still keep coming on.

You do, full body kit and spoiler, afraid I can't work out how to get photos on the forum in posts

Thanks, I'll get the tyres checked out, have fully inflated them as its been sat since April/May time but that didn't help

You can upload them to photobucket or imgur and use the image link with the 'Insert image' tool in the post toolbar

I'm really keen to see the car :D

The cheeky answer is "Whatever is in there already". The slightly more helpful answer is that anything built since the early 90s will use Organic Acid Technology (OAT) coolant. Ignore the colour of it - it can be anything from pink to red to orange or even blue, depending on who makes it.

Halfords or Comma orange/pink OAT will be perfectly fine, though if your current coolant is blue (it shouldn't be unless your car was taken to a Vauxhall garage at some point), it's going to end up brown and that's not ideal. Drain the system and replace all of it.

Most of the green coolant - you shouldn't have that in a Cougar - is glycol and silicates. Old tech. Stay well clear.

wheely bearings is what i say....and there actually cheaper and easier to fit than a tyre(well assuming you fit tyres)..you can get 2 sets for 49quid off ebay..and yes there good theyve been on my car for three years now..
jack the car up and see if you can wiggle the wheel(bearing play) and spin it fast you should hear NO noise/rumbling...other than the brakes that is.
any rrrrr noise or play/movement means new bearings required.. gluck!

Mine is blue. It was replaced by the Bolton Mafia during my ST200 engine swap. I was given the choice of red or blue and I chose blue because it matched most of my engine components. Lol

He doesn't say much about the blue stuff but I will say my change from red to blue did include a thorough drain. The ST200 engine was empty for about 6 months and was flipped upside down for the new big end bearings. The main pipework was all replaced with silicone stuff (although second hand). New metal water pump too. The only parts that could have still been wet were the heater and radiator which had more than 24 hours to drip dry. It was initially drained from the radiator. It's still blue after 4 and a bit years.

Dropped 'Cara' off today at a local garage for full service and check up to see what might need doing, a wheel bearing or two possibly and some rear suspension work potentially, a few knocking sounds here and there, will report back the damage

Welcome aboard (y)
I also say check the tyres for castellation, I took my Mondeo to the garage as I thought a bearing was going, they said it was they tyres. So I swapped the tyres front to back and lo and behold the noise came from the front now. A couple of months later I changed the tyres and no noise.
