new Cougar, seems good

...
*Sigh* Ugh. Yes they do rot, but I'd love to know how many combination garage/MOT stations have bought Bentleys on the profits from unnecessary brake line replacement.

Do you mean the entire submerged pump?

The past 4 or 5 MOTs have all commented on the brake lines, so I can't complain at that one.

The entire submerged pump? Possibly. I am afraid my knowledge of engines finishes pretty much with single cylinder motorbikes of the 70s and 80s. If the gauge is working fine (from their tests), but stays at 1/4 tank no matter how much fuel is in, what is likely to need replacing? How far can you break it down into separate pieces? Can you replace just the float and whatever it slides/sits in, or do you have to do the whole unit?

Lift the rear seat squab and have a look first. There are two types with no guarantee which one you might have. The pump can be bought seperate to the sender unit. I have two complete units in the cave.

I have a couple pics of the pump, if anyone can use it to advise me exactly what I need to get? Thanks.

hmmm, that didn't work. Hang on...

I think that worked this time...

That is the same type as yours. You can see the difference between the two types if you look at the link I posted in post no.22. That one has the fittings on the top whereas yours and the one on the breaker has the fittings entering horizontally from the side.
The one on the breaker has the same OEM part no., apart from it ends in AE instead of AD as in your photo, but that means it is a later version which will be compatible.

Perfect, thanks for that.

Now, the million dollar question. What is a fair price for a second hand one?

Took the Cougar out tonight, and opened her up for the first time. That could get quite addictive (until the fuel bill comes in!). I know you all are used to it, but to a first timer, the handling, speed and sound were quite intoxicating.

It's a gamble whatever the cost because it's 'Used' and, if faulty, could be the reason the car is being broken anyway.
Get it as cheap as poss. (y)
