New Ford Cougar owner 2.5 V6

Regarding the moosing... I always thought that was caused by coking from the EGR. As in, blow-by gasses deposited carbon in the valve.

And that was true for Tiger (my first V6). Flushing the unit with brake cleaner definitely stopped it...for a while.

But Sally - who doesn't have the EGR system - has started doing it now, at certain revs and very specific temperatures. So I think that the valve-cover breathers are just as guilty, dropping poo in the inlet. I've got an oil change in the near future, and will flush those hoses out at the same time.

Not being particularly scientific - it was a bit warmer here today - but after the oil change and blowing through the breathers, no more moose.

I think the circumstances for it happening are very specific, but are probably worse when you get close to the car needing a service.

That's my experience anyway.

Hiya, and may I be (possibly)the last to say Hi and WELCOME to the forum. It's nice to see another frosty silver car as we do seem to have a lot of black ones at shows. Although you probably know this already from your Probe days but remove the dreaded sponges from the inner panels to help it stop rotting from inside and like the man said make sure the subframe is good as they are pretty much unobtainium today.

Driving home last night and when I put my food down loss of power...eased off and it was fine. So weird. Quick Google suggests either the IACV or a fuel pump issue? Anyone else had this? Now I'm concerned if I drive it it'll lose power. Engine sounds fine...just when I pedal down it feels like it's either blocked or something.

Driving home tonight...limped it home but it just violently juddered when I put my foot even a little bit down to accelerate. I limped it home at 30mph and listened for anything bad..nothing I could hear. At an absolute loss unless it is the fuel pump or filter. I had to feather the throttle to get it home. Super light. The juddering was really violent...felt like it was coughing and spluttering to a halt. No leaks, no bad tapping, no gasket issues, no hot smell, temp gauge fine...

Fuel filter ordered....LED headlights came today so tomorrow it's a jobs day. Also need to try and remove the IACV to at least clean it..see if that works. If not, replace. At least with LEDs it won't be like using candles at night anymore! Just as a by the by, and one know of any good classic garages in the north east? Preferably Newcastle way..

Steve, for info about possibly suitable garages in your neck of the woods you could try messaging Dabooka (Sam). He's from around there somewhere and might be able to recommend someone to you. He hasn't been on the forum for about 10 months but he might pick up a message if you’re lucky.
If you do get a response would you be good enough to remind him he put some parts up for sale shortly before he left? (y)

Happy to do that...I'll let you know if he replies!
