New Ford Cougar owner 2.5 V6

I have no idea what your news was, but I absolutely empathise with how upset you are at having to lose Genevieve.

My Sally only came to me because the previous owner's pregnant wife was terrified at the idea of having her upcoming baby in the car, believing that a car seat could not be correctly supported on the back seats.

I have no idea if this is true (I don't have a baby and a spare Cougar I can crash to scientifically test it with) or whether she just wanted him to sell the car so he wasn't spending money on his own fun.

Either way, I wish you the best of luck. If you do end up selling and need any help getting her up to scratch so you get best value, please let us know.

Today I replaced the IACV and also the fuel filter. Both were old and knackered. The moosing noise has now gone thankfully. The problem, however, remains. Intermittent power loss. Seems to be on acceleration or over 40mph or 2500rpm.
Changed the bit I thought it was. Only thing left I can think of would be the fuel pump. Honestly, so frustrated today. Covered in fuel as well from the filter change. Anyone else any ideas please?

It is a ball ache. I’ve dropped my tank twice. Once for subframe replacement and once to change the pump.
On both occasions I had too much fuel in the tank which makes it even more of a pain.
When my pump failed there was no way I was going to chop out the floor to access it. Many have, it’s your choice and Certainly the easier option.

So are we suggesting a new coil pack before a fuel pump? Or should I just cut my losses and sell on to someone who can look after Genevieve better than me?

I'd go coilpack first, if only because they're not all that expensive, are far easier to fit, and I've seen far more coilpacks fail than fuel pumps.

That said, have you had Genevieve code-scanned? Is she telling you anything about running lean or misfires?

Lastly, it seems that you're going to have to get rid of her per your posts above. You need to think about whether you're better off spending the money to fix her, versus selling her (at a discount) with a known and claimed fault. I can't advise you there.

So does this look correct? Part says it fits.

No. If the part is as the picture, that's for a C2. The C1's leads have little grippy fingers that hold them on to the coil pack, which has ridges on it. It also has a bolt-hole at each corner.

Confirm that what they're selling you is the correct part number, and not what their photo is showing you.

I’ve got a spare used C1 coil pack if that interest you. Yours for postage cost and a donation to club funds of whatever amount you want to donate. I won’t know how much or if you donate.
