Hi

Just bought my first Cougar - silver V6 basic model without X Pack - only 55k on it - first imprssions of it are very good - bit like a sort of grown up and slightly relaxed version of my Puma. Bit more space for my middle age spread (and more beer in the boot)

Have had every car known to man - First car was a Hillman Avenger - Allegro and then Princess R - Scirroco - Cortina GXL 2.0 (with black webasco roof!) then BMW's, Nissan 200SX , then a number of Lexus Soarers - a V8 and then a mental twin turbo (320+ BHP) - had a Subaru WRX and Audi TT (too fat to fit in one now!) then a CLK 5.5 AMG (what a money pit!) - latest is a Puma with plently of mods which has to go - 75k in Blue with black leather and bluefin remap amongst loads of good stuff. Hit the Dagenham Dustbin bug now (Mrs come from Dagenham!)

thanks guys - need to give it a good clean and some new wiper blades - it seems in pretty good /nice condition considering its age - two things that I have found an issue - size of tyres 215/50r 16 seems only to be made by Kuhmo - its got one on the front and another cheapy tyre on the other side - found this size difficult to get - also when I rev the car the battery light comes on and off - check the aux belt or is it not grounding - any ideas guys - will take some pics - frosty silver??
 
John, if you want to stick with the 16's you'll have more joy looking at 225's rather than the un-common 215's. Flashing battery light is an alty fault at worst and the correct name for the your paint colour is 'Silver Frost'.

Hi John, welcome to the club, the alternator is a bit of a pain to change but I am sure that if you want to know anything, the members will assist.

Thanks for that. We're so used to seeing dead V6 alternators here that a different fault causing a similar problem is a refreshing change! :LOL:

Thanks - so would you suggest 225/45's to keep the rolling radius the same (if i've got that right) All I can find the same is Kuhmo's which are probably ok but seem expensive for what they are?? Power steering pump fixed so out with the camera if its not p*ss*ng down with rain or snowing Kindest John
 
Welcome John. 225s will make your speedo over read but not by much as the rolling radius is slightly smaller than standard. Only about 2% different so not massively. Check out Black Circles if you haven't already - a couple of decent tyres (Falken and Toyo) for around a ton a corner fully fitted (y)

I believe new Focus' use 215 55R 16's.. and this was after National Tyres told me that they didn't make them anymore. :D I went to a local tyre dealer and had no problem picking up new 215's

Welcome to Cougar ownership, they have a real character that you just have to love!

Alot of Focus, Cmax and Mondeos use 215/55 16's but the standard Cougar size is 215/50 16 which, as the OP has discovered, are becoming increasingly difficult to source.
 
Get some new wheels, you can get them for just a little more than a set of tyres.
