Inverinate NW Scotland
Hi,

I'm Dave, 50 almost 51 years old, but look through the eyes of a 25 year old
I'm semi retired outta the rat race to NW Scotland :)

Just bought my first Cougar, Very Tidy 51 plate in metallic green, V6 Auto, Xpack with 82,000 miles, 2 owners last one a mature Lady, for 4 years...........

Paid £50 for it............She came to me with Auto Box failure, she didn't want to spend Auto Rebuild money on it, and said she was going to scrap it..........So I bought it

Have sorted the Auto Box, I even did it without removing it from the car. The pump casing had gone porous (rusted through) and it was driven slipping as it ran out of oil.
Fitted a good s/h pump, a new set of clutches in the drum and a new band servo piston, and flushed out the filter. It now drives beautifully...............

I'm biased, always loved Fords, owned loads, and did my apprentceship there, and I have just finished building a 4X4 Puma Stage Rally Car with a V6 Cosworth in it !!

Cougar has a couple of minor niggles which no doubt I'll sort:-

1) Climate Control takes a few miles to start working sometimes, but once it's on it stays on and works fine.............Display is blank and and no blower, but if I notice it before starting the car, by cycling the Ignition on and off it then works straight away, usually between 1 and 5 on / off Ignition cycles.
I have changed the CC panel, but it's still the same

Any ideas / known problems ??

2) It has the IMRC stuck closed code, so will probably have to strip the unit and sort it, that's no biggie, have done them before for customers cars.

Apart from that and a cig lighter bulb (done), the car is now 100%

Cheers for now

Dave

Hi Dave, welcome to the forums.

For £50 you've got yourself an absolute bargain, we all know the price of the Cougar is currently a little on the low side, but I would say that's the cheapest anyone has paid for one (I'm sure someone will correct me if wrong :p)

As for the HVAC, I would have a guess at a supply fault, loose fuse, bad relay? I could be completely wrong, but there is enough members on here that someone will have had these symptoms before.

Hi Dave, welcome to ukcougar.com, your in the right place for all things cougar related, as well as some crazy banter. You will also be able to find all the fixes you need in our subscriber sections. Have a browse around the open forums and get a feel for the place. Remember! ukcougar.com is the only workshop manual for the big cat.
Speaking of bargains, i saved a cougar from the scrappies a couple of years back. £25 i paid for it, a V6 which needed all disks and pads replacing and a ABS fault. I sorted it over the winter and sold it on for £1100 .......re-------sult!

Nice one guys,

Have posted some pics in the pics section, awaiting approval atm, but hope they come out as some forums seem to need different addresing from Photobucket LOL.............If they dont I'll have to fiddle ;)

I will subscrbe in the next week or so, I'm just waiting on a big cheque clearing as I've spent a fortune over the last few weeks on various goodies for my other Ford Cat the Puma Stage Rally Car.

Also will be flat out busy next few weeks Snowman Rally this weekend with a mate, then moving my significant others parents up and building them a log cabin on our land next door to us !!

My only gripe with my Cougar was that it was way too quiet so I've just got the welder out, had it on the lift and sorted that.
I've removed the silencer behind the bumper on N/S and re piped to the O/S straight to back box..............Sounds much nicer now, a soft throaty growl, but not silly loud ;)

Cheers for now,

Dave

Hello Dave and welcome to the forum. Sounds like you've got yourself a bargain and know how to look after it.
Not sure about the blank HVAC display, unless it's the cold, but if on the 'Auto' setting the blower won't work until the 'stat opens after a few miles.
