Hi - I have just bought a 1999 (T) Cougar 2.0.

I have just joined the forum.

Hi Wilbert, welcome to the forum & Cougar ownership (y)

Have a mooch about and get a feel for the place. Our subscriber's area has pretty much everything you'll ever need to know about the big cat, from 'Problems' sections to 'How To's' in fact if it ain't in there it's probably not worth knowing!

Thanks - I was wondering - The one thing that needs work on the car is the suspension. I seem to feel every bump in the road - any ideas?

Has the car been lowered at all? and is it sat on aftermarket alloys? The front wishbones are prone to going, so get those checked as they are expensive, about £300 a side.

My coug is lowered 30mm and is sat on PI springs, so I do feel a lot more in the way of bumps etc. however, it is much better in handling, especially corners. The normal coug suspension is usually quite good if it's sat on the original alloys and correct sized tyres.

The Cougar has quite a stiff suspension by nature, so if you've just hopped out of a Saab or a Laguna or something you're bound to find it a little 'raw'

That said, the anti roll bar drop links will give you a knocking sound when you go over bumps if they're shot (around a tenner for a pair) and if your wishbones haven't been replaced yet they'll need doing pretty soon. For the wishbones & fixing bolts you'll not get much change out of £300 (if you fit them yourself) but it's largely the most expensive job you'll ever have to do on the Cougar. If they are goosed then the ride and handling can be compromised.

Thanks for all that!

Its on original alloys and I dont think it has been lowered.

It handles well but is a bit bumpy.

hi wilbert , welcome to the forum, if its the rear, it could be the shock absorbers, if you hear a clunking, it could be the anti roll bar brackets, mine were goosed, got them done and no more clanging. (y)
