Well...

I bought a Cougar just over 10 years ago, and I had many a happy drive in it for a number of years, however about 5 years ago I had a bit of a change of life, I breifly bought a Mercedes SLK, and then I left the country to work in the US. Becasue I was totaly disorginized and in a rush I just left my Cougar with my parents who made some talk about selling it, but in the end they never did, it's been sitting out in the elements on a drive all that time.

So I'm back in the UK now and I've re-inherit my Cougar!

So you can imagine how surprised I was when (after a new Battery) it started first time...

Maybe you can imagine how even more surprised I was when I took it to get MOT'd and it passed with only a few advisorys (Link ball joint covers and anti-lock breaking CV Ring are 'damaged' and the rear handbrake had 'low effect').

I guess they dont make them like they used to!

Im now waiting for October to get it taxed and see if I can rember how to drive stick shift :)

Welcome back Sebastian.
Looks like your parents did you a favour by not selling it.
Those repairs will certainly be cheaper than buying a new car.
I bet she needs a good wash and polish though.

Thanks guys, it's kind of odd to be back... I feel like I'm in some sort of time warp, tho I notice the sites had a bit of a re-vamp.... and the memership fees have gone down !!

I'm guessing she'll need a bit of interior refreshment?

There were a few spiders who moved in, but It was surprisingly not that bad, it does need a good clean, but I can't see anything that looks particularly damaged. It still had that 'cougar leather' smell when I got in it :)

5 years of dirt and bird dropppings :) There was quite a bit of moss on the wipers and windows, but otherwise it did'nt look TOO bad.

Once I get it taxed and can take it out I'm going to take it for a professional valet/wash/polish and see what it looks like.

I was mostly in California when I was in the US, but I did spend some time in Chicago and I spotted a few Mercury Cougars while I was there, all of them a Dark Blue (unless it was the same one 3 times).

I guess this guy is out of date too.... :)

Yes, there have been some... changes. You might like to have a look in the Club Admin forum if you're interested. We're looking quite healthy these days, with a BBQ and a Coleman event shelter and such.

I don't know you - you left before my time - and so don't want to assume anything about you, but bird poop is acidic and may well have caused chaos with your lacquer (please tell me it wasn't parked under a tree!). If you want help cleaning her up, just shout.

Welcome back Sebastian, still a few names about you should remember, check out the old farts society most will be in there by now though I have managed to escape it (y)

I'm quite happy to be an old fart. Not because I've been here for very long, (only three years) but because I am one.

Anyway, the membership has partially changed here, but the character hasn't. We still look after our own, I think.

Dont pay for a valet, get it over here to Manchester and I will quite willingly spend a day with you washing and polishing- i have everything already here at hand all you would need is your time :)

To be honest, I'd kind of assumed there was little/no chance it would even start never mind pass it's MOT that I did'nt really pay that much attention to the paint work, I give it a good going over with the hose, (and in places a pressure washer) to get the thick of it off, but looking at it tonight in the dark there does seem to be a few patches where the paint work looks quite dull... but Im not sure if thats actual left over dirt or something worse.. I'll not be able to get a good look at it in daylight till the weekend :)
