Both my original reg. and it's 'private' replacement are unidentifiable.
They are both '51's but neither the DVLA vehicle page or my V5 have a CO2 figure on them.

But it also shows as a 2.0L when it's a v6 so make of that as you will

My C2 came up as this, 2002 registered but it has always been cheaper tax, manufactured in Oct 2000
That's interesting... it implies that they go from date of manufactuer, not date of first registration.
Also, I wonder what your car was doing for those 18 months?
Rik, from what Wil said I don't believe it got much further than the port where it was unshipped, probably Zeebrugge, there it languished in a compound until an independent importer of Mercs and Audis decided to bring it over here.

Was already getting shafted for the 220, looks like no change for me. Balanced out by paying £30 a year for Shed. Some seem to think electric cars will be zero tax forever - are they in for a shock
Maybe they'll stay zero tax, the 'fuel' will remain at domestic electric tax rate, the cars won't incur a charge for entering emissions zones, but the congestion zone will....start at your gate!
I mean, governments of any stripe have only one way of controlling our behaviour - tax. Raising it here to increase revenue, easing it there to secure votes.
But they hate losing the revenue when we decide to comply. So if we all decide to own electric cars? Tax on electricity of course. And that will - as usual - harm people who don't even drive and just want to boil their kettles.
Batteries are built with resources that are mostly owned by China, (Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Somalia) and they have been so comprehensive about it that we're going to go into further debt to the PRC.
The system is broken and is based on punitive measures and asymmetric global trade. Are they really sure that in this era of saving energy this model is sustainable?
I’ve stated elsewhere electric cars are only truly ”green” if you charge it at home from your home generated electricity, probably your roof top solar panels. Other than that your powering via the network, which is in turn powered by various sources, mostly carbon fuelled. That is simply moving the exhaust emissions to a different location. Electrical Engineers far and wide know this.
I wonder how many day's compliance it would take to break the government.
I mean, lets say end of March (when the new registrations come out), nobody buy a new car (that's all the revenue from car/purchase taxes gone), everybody cancels their current VED, that's refunds due to everyone with a balance of VED (approx 50% of a year average), and everybody starts walking/cycling/going nowhere/getting a lift with their EV-owning friends, that's all fuel tax (and once the bus/rail companies realise, including fares taxes and public transport fuel tax).
I mean, along with not buying luxury goods (VAT), just how long would it be before they were crippled?
I get what you're saying and I think you're right, but there's literally no way that we could manage that level of coordination I'm afraid.
I'll concede the point that it's probably easier, cheaper and more effective to put a catalytic converter and DPF, and control/optimise the 'motor' performance on a big power station than on every privately-owned ICE vehicle.
And getting tankers of liquid to convenient distribution/sale points for drivers (and getting the cars there to refuel) is probably ultimately less efficient than an existing cable infrastructure carrying electricity straight to an in-home charger - once those chargers are installed (which itself is another logistical exercise, probably involving installers visiting homes in ICE vans!)
The electricity distribution network is barely coping with the load it presently has to carry, if we give up petrol and diesel fuels and then all connect our battery powered cars to charge them from a remote power station the network would fails pretty much instantly. I kid you not, this is fact.

who are they ? Our economic system is dependant upon commercial and government spending. If “they” have no taxes it’ll be “us” that’s crippled.
I don’t have answers to how we solve climate change but I am aware of the problems with the solutions as presently planned, this seemed an opportunity to share some of the facts.

I'm assuming that the governent has scaled their assumption of electric car uptake. They must at least have an idea of the graduated increase of the demands on the grid.

I was assuming a situation where they have an obligation to provide certain services regardless of taxes (defence, health, law and order etc), and we have no obligation to purchase or use taxable products or services.
