Newbie Cougar Owner as of 4 days ago...!!

not much more to say you should of had a folder with owners books spare key and nearly every bill from new even a bill of sale from a previous owner.I went over to France three years on the run doing about 2000 miles a time.Like most owners on here they regret selling them.In my ownership it failed its M.O.T once on a wheel bearing and six months before i sold it it had new front discs and pads all round.The owners club is a brilliant club even if you dont post that much it is a font of knowledge and run to a high standard .Anyway enjoy it as much as i did and i will be checking in from time to time to make sure your looking after it

I do have to folder of paperwork, which is really useful to have, great to hear you went over to France in it too, it is good to have a bit of background on the car.

It does run beautifully, and definitely drives like a much newer vehicle. It is obvious you looked after it well.

I am planning to subscribe to the forum over the next week (pay day Weds lol), as I just know I will appreciate the honest, genuine opinions and recommendations on here. I am really loving the fact that there seems to be such a great vibe amongst the Cougar owners, people on here clearly love their cars :)

There is only one thing I need to get looked at, and that is the gas struts that hold the tailgate up, sometimes they hold, sometimes they give and clout any unsuspecting person on the head!! So I may get those replaced if I can. Once I am a member I'll find the appropriate area on here to search for this info / post the query.

Anyway - thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it.

And I'll be posting from time to time too.

Once you subscribe there are discounts for members and the gas struts are one of them, there is a company that does uprated ones, you call them and give your user name from here once a member and you can get a set for around £35 incl delivery, and trust me they are excellent.. (y)

It's one enormously heavy lump of metal and glass, that boot lid. So once the OEM struts start to go, you have to make sure you push it all the way up to get it to stay in place. Once the struts are extended all the way you'll find it tends to stay there.

When you come to replace them, make sure you don't get ones that are too over-powered though. Otherwise you might find that the remote hatch opening (from the remote or the button in the cabin) doesn't work because there's too much tension on the lock for it to release.
