Newbie Cougar owner with questions.

First off i would like to say hi to everyone, i have bought a 1999 2.5 v6 cougar and have inherited some minor problems. The main being the heater and blower only seems to work when it wants to, like there is a bad earth maybe? Is this usual? Any advice would be sweet. The car itself is really nice just cold. Sorry if this is in the wrong place.

Howdy and congrats on your Cougar. Sounds like you might have a dodgy connection somewhere or a knackered relay. I'd start by just checking the connections you can around the fuse boxes and make sure there are no blown ones etc before getting too in depth. Also just check the knobs on the HVAC panel are on properly!

There are many how To's in the subscriber sections that will talk you through any issues you might have with the car and also save you a mint on garage bills.

In your case I would think you have a vacuum problem (little grey pipe at the back of the engine)

Fan in auto works when it needs to, if yours blows on windscreen only and cold it is almost certainly a vacuum problem

Thanks for fast replies guys, i only got the car yesterday and when i picked it up the heater and fan worked as it should, i stopped for fuel, restarted car and there was no life in it. When i got home it worked again but this morning it wouldnt work. The little control screen lights up when turning ignition but goes off when engine starts?
