i got it at a bargin price of 600pound with 6mounths mot and abit of tax.
it seems to be a realy nice and clean inside and out and drives so well nice and smooth.
there is one thing with which it seems like its holding back a little when flooring it.seems fine low down in the revs but as it gets higher just seems like its holding back alittle.
i had a vectra v6 which was doing the same and the oil breather pipes were blocked up so clean them and it went like stink maybe its the same problem or sumthing else?
it still drives realy nice tho so not to concerd or shud i be o_O
ill try getting a pic of it up tomoz to show u all.

hi dude welcome to the club. Now im no way shape or form an expert but think this might be something to do with your secondaries not kicking in which is to do with your irmc i believe. Theres a few threads in the problem section about this and think i remember there being an easy way to check it. There's bound to be soemone far more knowledgable than me along soon to help u. Get urself subscribed it will the best money you spend on your cougar trust me its saved me a fortune with info and help from pepes on here.

That wiil be the imrc unit on top of the front cambox the circiut board is prone heat damage which takes out the transister I'm sure someone may have a spare lying about.

Welcome to the good ship UKC James (y)

As mentioned, it sounds like the IMRC is dead - not a big job and nothing to be concerned about - the only symptom will be lack of power above 3500rpm

Secondary linkage dropped off?

It could make it sluggish low down on the rev range if the bar comes off as the three secondary inlets tend to open. More likely the first diagnosis I'd say.

Welcome to the club James

hey cheers for the replys guys.
yeah it feels fine intill around 4 tho rpm but then u can just tell its going how it shud.
so if its this imrc thing then do i just goto ford or buy a second one?
were is it as well as i realy dont know were to look or anything lol
is there anything else i shud check as well?

Take off the Duratec cover and the little sliver box before you is the IMRC, they can be fixed more often by replacing a transistor, if you have to buy a new IMRC it's very expensive. To take the box out amounts to a few bolts holding the box, a multiplug and disconnect the cable underneath the throttle inlet. A straightforward job but it can be fiddly to get at the cable near the throttle inlet, I took the MAF and air filter etc off to facillitate access.

As for replacing the Transistor, Rob was doing a few at one time, I haven't done that part but a few members have mended their own.

If you rev the engine from inside the engine bay whilst looking under the throttle inlet, you will see the cable that comes from the imrc box (like a bicycle brake cable) when revving the beyond 3500 rpm you should see the cable pull and open your secondary inlets. An alternative way is to take the top off the imrc box and place your thumb on the motor and then rev the car to 3500 + RPM, you should see the motor working, if not, the IMRC will be at fault.

The picture below shows the arm that can pop out, the right side is where the cable is attached when it's on the car

cheers for that reply with the pic mate great help.ill shall go out in abit and ave a little look.
i have seen a couple of imrc boxes on ebay for about 40pound tested etc so if its at foult then i shall just get a second one i think.
i still need to try and get sum pics up in abit as im realy surprised at just how clean it is for 600pound lol

You do get a lot for your money, good luck with the finding the problem. If you keep hold of the car there is a lot in the subscribers section too, How to's etc. It can be worth the money just for savings that can be made when some idiot at a garage tries to rip you off with a phantom problem.

Hey well I went and and checked what u said.
At first I seen that rod had dropped off so I put that back on and reved up a couple of times and nothing so went out for a spin and still nothing.
I look for the cable moveing like u said as well while reving it rite up and still nothing so I guess it must be the irmc unit then.there's a guy on eBay selling one at 40pound tested so will get that next week sum time.
I olso noticed that I can move the arm what the rod I'd connected to.so can I leave it in the open position or will that do more harm than good?

If your secondaries are left open the engine can be really sluggish when pulling off.
