Newbie

Well my insurance want almost £400 to cover it, first they say it can be listed as a classic this morning, then this evening they changed their mind. My biggest problem is if I buy it I am going to struggle to collect it as my friend can't give me a lift for two weeks. Not sure the owner will like that idea.

To be honest, you've scared me a bit now with the auto box stuff, as I have no choice, I can only drive automatic!

I'm not far from Cirencester and could collect and store it for a couple of weeks if needs be. Were you intending viewing this weekend?

Don't worry about it. What you've got here is a really honest opinion of things that can go wrong, from a bunch of people who have seen it all.

Not every one will blow up in creative ways, especially if it's been looked after. Do your due dilligence and you won't have an issue. And it's not as though the CD4 gearbox is rare.

What you need to look at more than anything else is the state of the chassis. Outer sills will rot out like crazy if rust is allowed to set in, but that's because they're cosmetic instead of structural and the metal is thin. Unfortnately, that's an MOT fail. Fortunately, it's silly-easy to fix if you have a friend with a welder.

I wish you the best of luck, and hope to see you as a new owner soon.

I spoke to the owner, but he has two other prospective buyers and even with a deposit will not wait for me to collect on the 11th. I could have collected tomorrow or Sunday, but he's not home. I even tried getting transport quotes. I'm a bit gutted as I really liked the look of it. I'll just have to search again.

Did you catch my offer ^^^^? (y)

Hi Quicksilver

I was going to view Monday as its the only time he would let me, but my friend is Notts Police and could only do Sat/Sun, or 11th/12th. If I bought the car, could you store it until 11th/12th? She is definitely free then. :)

And thank you for the offer!

Yes I could store it for as long as you like.
I'm about 20 miles SW of Cirencester.
Let me know how you'd like to sort it out. (y)

Hi

If I contact the seller and ask him to still view and explain, could you pm me your number and I can call you and arrange something if I buy it? If this is okay?

I've sent the owner an Ebay PM and a text. Probably not great practice as it lets him know how much I like his car - but that's the problem, I DO like his car. :D Keeping my fingers crossed the other buyers aren't viewing Monday now as he thought I couldn't collect! Its late, so I guess I won't know until tomorrow, but I'd just like to say you guys are great. I've had Vauxhalls for a long time and never have I got such a friendly, helpful response before I've even managed to get the car! (y)

Hi, and welcome to the Forum.

My advice is take your time, and you will find the right car.
There are plenty of Cougars out there to choose from, and the advice on here is second to none on what to look out for.

Hello and welcome to the club Dawn. You can't go wrong with a lovely Ebony Coug, but there again, I maybe a little biased! lol!!!

Hi everyone, I'm sorry to say it isn't happening. The owner texted me back this morning to say he has had someone view it already and they want it. I am gutted, as when I asked to view today he said he could only do Monday as he was picking his parents up from London in it. My friend was even available today to take me down - I feel like I've been used a bit, basically he knew he had that guy going and he strung me along for Monday in case the guy didn't have it! I have spotted this one at a dealer, does anyone know it? MOT history looks good, but its three and a half hours from me. Mind you, at least you know where you stand with a dealer and don't get strung along!

Hi my names mark I'm new to this forum too I'm on my 6th cougar now mines a cougar 2 they all been off ebay there's some cracking ones on there now I've just bought a yreg for 500 quid its perfect now I got 2 good luck

Sorry to hear you did not get the car Dawn, the one your looking at now looks tidy body wise, see its had some added chrome trim round the doors, rear lights, i know its easy to say but its better to look at a few and get the right one than just get something that fits the bill now, a dealer will offer some protection over a privete sale but you do seem to pay more, having said that the Auto option in the UK was not popular, manual changing was at that time the preferred choice and it was an extra cost so manual cars for sale will out number Auto ones by quite a bit, the manual box by its nature is more robust it would take a lot more abuse but the key thing is to find a car thats not been ramped and i don`t think most Auto`s are, for the most part there left in drive and econ mode for day to day driving, do hope you find the right car and have not been put off getting a cougar (y)

Sorry to hear the one in Cirencester fell through Dawn but it seems a bit strange to me that he 'nicked' the first photo of the boot space (without the cd changer) on his listing from the listing you've just posted??
