Not having much luck

After getting the starter fitted and getting the car running I have found my top hose has a small leak pin hole right next to the clip
cant seel it of going to have to get new hose one even though the hoses we're replace 4 months ago
is it save to drive meant to be at a show tommorow and it's 3 hours to get there
 
Well I ain't taken the risk iv been ironing school clothes instead trying to justify what to do next
when I removed the originals they were a mess are samco's worth there money?
 
They're certainly good hoses, plenty of performance vehicles (and one ancient MX5) to attest to that fact but for more niche vehicles they can become a rather expensive upgrade. The ones on my MX5 were purchased from eBay as genetic silicone hoses (from China) but arrived with slightly crappy "Samco" transfers on them, that said they fitted perfectly and they are the same ply and feel the same quality as genuine Samcos.

They'll last forever, and if you're keeping the car for a good few years I'd recommend them as theoretically at least they could save an engine - if the car will move on in the next year or two I'd consider a decent used hose. I imagine a new Ford hose will be quite an expense but don't know for certain.

One caution, if a hose as deteriorated the undefeatable "Law of Sod" States that another hose will burst soon!

New hoses and a refil of top quality anti-freeze (I flush with a dishwasher tablet first, then a few plain water flushes afterward) should see a trouble free system for the next decade at least.

Going to order samco's but probably be the end of next month:( going to see if I can do a temp repair or something today could go down to scrapys and get one probably the best idea
 
if its near the clip can't you just cut the hose back and reclip it temporarily ,dont run it with a hose leak though as it could burst.
also if the cooling system cannot presurize you risk boiling..
just cut it back ,i did this to a radiator hose on my scorp and its never given any issues.
 
Hose replaced car back up and running until I hear an ht lead arcing on the front bank and melted silicon round it thought I sorted the arcing out last week
I'm cursed not having a good time
 
Well to make things worse the hoses I got were not samco's they were the same ones as I have origanly fitted so I just replaced the one on topping up coolent tonight I found under pressure the replacment hose leaking so I am now further out of pocket back to square one and seriously thinking of taking it to u pull it scrapys on Saturday

christ! over a leaky hose...
you want issues! try havin a hole in the sill ,nackered wishbones a bad subframe and bushes that look like their stuffed with pencil rubbers....then consider scrapping it.. a leaking hose is nothing to fix..

dude dont use a dishwasher tablet for flushing alloy blocked engines.
the bleaching agent in it will slowly eat your block away....
seriosly im a commercial appliance engineer for miele and you should see what happens to alloy pans that are washed above 60 deg with normal detergent...first signs the alloy goes grey, it then starts to fir up..eventually you get a hole..
not dissin you or anything ,i know you know ur stuff but dont do it.

Going to have to replace all 5 hoses not trusting them, I ain't washing my hands very easily over the past two and half weeks I have had over £400 forked out in unexpected repairs on cat and minibus the majority on the cat and with one wage kids and everything else to support can't justify it

i may just let sit for a while and simmer down right now just pleased

sorry mate ,didnt know the full story of the repairs youve forked out for....just let it sit for a while till u get your enthusiasm back..
park it away and recharge yourself..you'll be glad you still got it after some time..
 
Well went to u pull it today and got a hose for 3 quid was tempted to take the rest off the hoses to.

So wife stupidly said for my wedding aniversery at the end of the month I can get new samco's and magnecor leads orderd I'm going to hold her to it

so I now have no leaks which is what matters :)

I've used dishwasher tablets and Steradent for cleaning out hoses and plastic tanks, (especially after oil-to-water head gasket failures) but have never flushed an entire engine with them. I normally do that with a low-pressure hose.

The reason I didn't was because I was worried about what would happen to the heater core - not the rest of the motor.

So it looks like I managed to accidentally dodge a bullet just because I was aware of my own ignorance. Thanks for putting a proper reason behind it.

Excellent! Hope you have many happy miles ahead of you. But remember that Samco aren't the only silicone hoses available - they're just the best-known and so are quite expensive. If you've been given a pass to invest, research the alternatives that the club-level race teams use. You might save yourself some money, meaning you have some left over to replace more of them...
