Ordering oil/filter both original ford products and air filter next week off eBay , air filter is easy as pie to replace as you know , now , I was going to ask a garage if they could perform oil/filter change for me , but I just spotted funnily enough cougar(how's that for a name) ramps on eBay for 16.99 with a 6.99 delivery charge (24 quid) about the price I reckon a garage would charge me or even more to do the oil/filter change for me , some can be right cheeky bar stewards...
So shall I tackle the job myself? Is the sump nut easy to get at along with the filter when up on ramps? What you reckon?
Any tips , cheers.

Need to get job done asap , checked the oil levels yesterday being a newly acquired cougar , and it is just below minimum!!

The V6 engine likes oil close to max at all times!

I posted a how to in the relevant section a while ago with part numbers etc, easy to do and I'd recommend a new sump plug

You'll need 6 litres of oil.

Why do you recommend new sump plug? Shouldn't I be able to reuse sump plug??
Is the filter easy to get at Steve will I see it plainly when up on ramps or is there a engine uncover?
And are two tonne ramps safe enough for the job?

So I'm going to have to buy additional oil on top of a five litre bottle?? Ffs, more money.
Will 6 litres take it to Max level or near?

Better safe than sorry, plenty of sump plugs get chewed and rounded they're only a couple of quid.

Rated capacity is 5.5L but will be closer to 6 with filling the new filter

Cheers Steve , but just one more question as above... Is the filter at hands reach once up on ramps and under the car , is it easy to reach and twist??

Will the sump plug washer come off with plug when loosened off or do they have a tendency to stay on sump? Does it even have a washer or is that just on a Mondeo?

Anyone?

Ok just been out and searched for oil filter, no wonder I couldn't spot it , looks like the original one , rusted and discoloured! So I know now that I can get to it , looks a bit awkward though , from underneath do I turn anti clock wise (which i gues is correct) to take off or clock wise? Simple question but could save me some sweat when it comes to taking off next week...

They all have washers on!. Some are plastic some are copper. 15mm nut on the rear of the engine it is easier to change the filter with a proper filter clamp.

righty tightie leftie loosie

Thanks mate , I'll have to invest in one of them filter grips also me tinks , looks old as the hills...
One good things , once I done it myself I can do it all the time myself , ramps always come in handy so I can use them another day!

That's the sump plug and washer I plan to order , look good? Can I get a socket on sump but on rear of engine? Cheers.
Or will it have to be spanner?

Cheers mate , just weighed up all the cost , £76 for all the stuff needed 5 litre of ford oil 5w30 + another litre bottle, oil filter , filter tool , sump plug and washer ,ramps , and a air filter for good measure , told my dad it cost near that in a garage for just the synthetic oil lol , he is worried because I'm putting it on ramps with a weight load of 2 tonne , told him not to worry , can't wait to get it done though , can't drive my car proper until I sort it.

with the cost of the oil sometimes buying a 1 ltr bottle is almost 1/2 the cost of a 5 litre, if so but 2x5 ltrs then you have some for top ups latter

My thoughts at exactly lazy , but my missus handles the money and is the worker so I'm trying to keep costs down as much as poss lol..
But yeah like I said , had the same thing in mind mate , two great minds and all that! Ha.

Saved me a ball ache there mate , cheers.

Excludes vat, hmm may not be cheaper then.

Looking forward to doing it , wish I learnt car mechanics at college now instead of performing arts lol , could have saved myself a fortune over the years.
