just purchase a 2.5l 24v cougar w-reg. on starting up after it has been parked a while more than 12 hrs the oil light stays on unless you blip the thottle. only does this when cold. never comes on when driving. I have only done a couple of hundred miles.
I belive from the last owner the oil has done about 14,000. didnt know what grade was used. CAN ANYONE GIVE ME CLUES.

Change the oil and filter immediately!

Ford or any decent stuff will do, Magnatec is excellent and they do a Ford specific one

Wouldn`t worry too much about the oil light if it is only on start up, I would be more worried if it was lit when warm and idling

I got the same issue, it is the oil preasure sensor that is faulty. Nothing to do with oil or filter. I just changed my oil + filter and it is still doing it. They are cheap to buy but a bit of a pain to get to on the engine and fit.

Change the oil and filter first and then worry about the sensor if it's still staying on.

Don't be afraid to buy genuine Ford oil and filter, they're reasonably priced.
Otherwise make sure it's 5W30 and meets Ford's spec (should be printed on the bottle somewhere).

Change the oil and fit a new filter asap. Then check again.
