P0401 code fault

Anybody had this fault amd resolved it ? So far i have checked all the pipework to and from the EGR valve, removed and cleaned the Throttle Body, cleaned the MAF sensor and cleared the code, but after 20 mile drive the code is back! I don't have the MIL lamp on but i guess it's only a matter of time before it does.
The only thing i have not done is to remove the upper inlet manifold, has anybody with a V6 had a similar problem. Much appreciate any help on this. TS

Thanks guy's.....No the engine runs sweet in all the range....now & then i just plug the code reader in to have a look & see what's stored....P0401 is always present. My Land rover Defender has the EGR blocked off so i guess the same operation on the V6 is the best fix. Any recomendations on how far back to blank the EGR off? How will the ECU respond to ZERO flow compared to insufficient flow? Thanks....TS

PM dogsbody, he makes the blanking plates that fit between the valve and the uim. Ford did away with the EGR valves completely on the later engines.

Well...today was a sunny day for a change so nothing much to do so i decided to remove the upper inlet manifold and here is what i found..

After removing the throttle body gaskit that was stuck to the UIM you can see all the carbon that was blocking the flow, i have attached pictures that show before & after cleaning.
Again i cleared the P0401 fault and took her for 30 mile drive...no differance in the performance but the code has NOT returned....so Fixed !!!!

I will most probably block off the EGR in any case, but it was one of those niggly things that i needed to know rather than mask and forget.

If the moderators of the site wish to move the thread to a "repairs" forum please do...it may help others on the forum to fix a similar issue.
