Morning chaps, been a while since I posted on here but thought I'd spread the good news - my car passed its MOT at the Ford dealer last weekend :)

Only 1 advisory...both front tyres getting very low due to tracking.

Bit annoying as my 215/50 tyres are only 12 months old (7mm outside and 2mm inside!). I need to find a garage with decent laser tracking in the Stoke area.

Too many potholes down our country road I think!

Good news on the pass (y)

Try http://www.alignmycar.co.uk/ - they have a search feature. Try and find a place with Hunter equipment that have had good reviews. I need to have a 4 wheel alignment on mine done as I think my front wheels are way out after having track rod ends done :eek:

Thanks for all the advice guys - useful website! XJK Jaguar is the nearest according to that - just spoken to them and they use Hunter equipment but want £96+vat for the privilege lol!

Funnily enough I had a new offside tracking rod end at last year's MOT.
 
Nice one Adam, tho i am surprised you took it to Frauds, they probly missed the fact that the wishbones are shot (maybe) but if you had a TRE fitted why didnt they track it then? In my personal opinion, my local Frauds are just plain useless.......oh and VERY expensive
 
I'd agree with Tony. Tracking only goes out when the car gets a proper thump. The average pothole won't hurt it. If the wheels are splayed out and shredding the inside shoulders of the tyres it's far more likely to be because the wishbone bushes are tired letting the wheels wander outwards under the car's weight.
 
I get a good deal for my servicing and MOTs with Ford. In hindsight I agree that the tracking should have been done after the new TRE (only learned that yesterday). The guy told me on Saturday that there's a tiny bit of play from the wishbone bushes but it's so minor it's not worth an advisory.

For now I'll have to concentrate on getting my front tyres replaced in the next couple months and get my tracking done. I think i'll have to go for 225/50s this time round.

The Ford Garage where Adam goes is quite nice, it didn't used to be a Ford garage. It's a nice little family run garage / car sales place which shares the forecourt with the village police station. It used to just be a Renault and Tata (IIRC or might have been Proton or some other undeseriable make!) garage if I remember correctly, then they managed to secure a deal to become a Ford Dealer. Not sure if they are still dealers for the other makes but it was getting a bit odd as they had loads of Dealerships and it's a tiny little place really!

If I had to go to Ford for some work I'd choose that one over any Ford Dealers I've ever seen.

If the front tyres aren't too bad couldn't you just swap them with the rears and get the front tracked up with the rears in place. That way the ones from the front should start to wear more evenly on the rear and you should get much more out of them. Obviously if they're badly worn ditch them but if they still have some life left it would save you a good bit of money

Depends how far the 2mm goes. If the 2mm is right on the shoulder then I'd be happy with that on the rear for years to come. If the 2mm goes from the edge to about half way then I'd probably ditch it

Good point, but if it was me i would ditch them and get new ones..
