So, I've been back here for a couple of months having got back into cougar ownership. Had a 98 plate 2.5 with only 40,000 on clock, back in 2009. Loved it, the way it handled, sound, speed (in the right rev range) etc. Anyway, had to get rid of that beast for various reasons but back on track now with what I always desired, a mk2 (prefer the front end).

Which is my question.... Does anyone seem to notice a distinct performance difference between the later cougars vs the early ones. I don't want to start an argument, constructive comments only.

I know it's subjective but my old cat was cared for very well and had low low miles. Treated by same mechanic and myself with what I know. This new one, has 90k on it, little bit ignored before I had her but by jesus it's quicker. Markedly so. I've had two ST24's and an ST220 so I'm always expectant of what my cougar can/cannot do.

So....has anyone noticed the difference, either way possibly? I'd like to add that I kept both as stock as possible.

Cheers

Ross

They are not dyno'd as such I had 24 valve mk1 mondeo si and that motor would blow my Cougar into cocked hat.

The mk1 si mondeo had a different gear ratio, so they were quite a lot quicker.

assuming both cars were standard.
the cougar 2 would have the larger lim, this could make it seem faster.
does it have the egr valve ,the newer ones didn't have it and as such dont get all clogged up with carbon like the early ones.

also consider the fact that the prev owner MAY have done things to it that you cant see..

just some possibilitys.
