photo hosting sites

imgur. Seriously. It's simple, lightweight, and has the backing of a media giant, so isn't going anywhere.

Photobucket is a clunky mess these days. Flickr and Instragram will get added to my NoScript whitelist over my dead body.

As mentioned above, if you are a club member you can upload them directly to the site as you have unlimited* attachment space for images.

*Within reason

The bandwidth requirements (and the thumbnail presentation) are why I don't use our site's own image hosting services.

as per my reply there flickr is free, gives you a TB of space, and let's you choose from different image sizes without the need to edit

OK, so we've established that Photobucket is dead in the water, and it looks like a Mexican stand off between Imgur and Flickr. Chris, you seem very set against Flickr, whereas Steve is a fan. Why so?

After reading some horror stories about Photobucket accounts being locked after users electing not to pay for increased storage, I've downloaded my library as a .zip file. Where to put it though? Sell it to me gents, sell it to me.

I browse with Firefox and use NoScript and AdBlock Plus.

Using Imgur requires whitelisting 2 benign domains.

Using Flickr requires whitelisting at least 10 domains, at least two of which are Google advert CDNs and you can't see the pics unless you allow the ads. No thanks.

Can we take a step back? What you've said certainly appears to be English, but it may as well be in Ancient Greek! I use Microsoft Edge and I haven't a clue what whitelists NoScript or CDNs are! I would also probably want to upload to and pull links from the chosen site using my phone (Galaxy S7) from time to time.

Also using FF/Adblock plus and also another blocker that escapes me....never had an issue using flickr and hiding ads and not whitelisted anything

flickr is aimed at proper togs so there'll be stuff that you might not need...I've not used imgur so can't comment.....give em a go and see which you like :)

CDN = Content Delivery Network. It's how some sites present images to you and, unfortunately, how they put their ads on you. And viruses.

Using a script blocker prevents that rubbish, but also prevents the site rendering properly. It also stops the site owner making money. If you use a blocker, you can whitelist the sites you trust. And that's how it should work.

Of course, if you browse from a phone, you're hitting a hundred tracking domains every time you hit your favourite website. And if you're using Edge... well, you're just giving all that to Microsoft as well.
