Hi All

My partner has taken a fancy to this car, I have had a look and overall looks very good and the engine is very sweet. It is being sold with a years mot, i had a look underneath and the main floor looks great, But I could see some rust on the outer Sill and a possible holeunder the sealant.

Are rusted holed sills of any kind not an mot fail. how easy are they to obtain further down the road if i wanted to replace them. Other than that and a little bubble of rust on one of the wings it looks a very good car.

I did think the price was high though £995, it has got 4 new tyres fitted and every thing works and the car is clean and dry inside.

BLACK, 89000 Miles, Remote Central Locking, Front Electric Windows, Electric Mirrors, ABS, Traction Control, Climate Control, Power Steering, Drivers Airbag, Passenger Airbag, Alarm, Immobiliser, Full Leather Interior, Alloy Wheels, mot 1 year

Any thoughts greatly welcomed

Hello and welcome aboard. The Cougar is a good buy depending on which one you purchase. There are many of them out there, both good and bad. The one you have described sounds ok, although over priced, as really should be nearer the £500 mark. Panel parts are hard to come by and most have to resort to using one that is/has been broken. We have a couple of people on here who break cougs and sell the various parts. If there is rust in the sill and it fails an mot, it will be a case of cutting it out, welding a plate in place, then filling, sanding and then painting (there are people on here who have done that quite recently). The biggest things on the cougars to check are the front wishbones as these are expensive - about £120 +vat each and you need to change them as a pair - see this link: http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/c/cougar_suspension_271/ There is loads more info to be found on this forum, however, you will need to subscribe to get access (it will be money well spent). Anyway, best of luck...Black one's are always best.....lol!!!!!...but that maybe because that's what I have!! Cheers, Tim

Honest opinion, once the rot starts to take hold you'll always be fighting it. Walk away, find another one, there are plenty to choose from.

Don't pay that price for a car with holed sills. What looks like a "small" hole will always be a lot worse once you start to dig. As the sill on the cougar is part of the chassis strength it will be an mot fail and would need to be welded as replacement sills are not available. Unless your confident of a good repair, walk away and keep looking, there are still good ones out there, and for less money, shame but true.

Yep i agree...i picked mine up for £200, MOT fail for the rear sub frame (which i am 50% of the way through replacing), when that's sorted i will have a no rust 70,000 mile 2.5v6 for £700 and many hew bits replaced that would normally die in car that's 13 yrs old. Keep looking !!
