Power steering fluid

I've just bought some in a motor factors which the guy said would do for my car (C1 2.0l)

Its motaquip ATF type DIII (FORD MERCON M931004) and is red, It seems a different spec to what the manual recommends though.
Its red and i checked my resovoir which resembles a more brown/orange colour (maybe down to age/use).

Just wanted to double check before i filled it up

should be ok most atf are red and are backward compatible, the only ones to be wary off are the synthetic ones but they are normally green and the ones for electric systems which are thinner and 3-4 time the price ATF

Most normal ATF/PAS systems want Dextron II/III with some variations on the detergents.

What's in your reservoir is probably that colour after heating.

Does anyone know the power steering fluid capacity from empty? The manual, just says fill to MAX.

To be honest a good motor factor should be able to tell you, my local one told me all the required amounts of fluid I needed when I was changing my engine.....I have a vauge memory of buying 2 bottles of pas fluid but I could be wrong

Two litres will do you fine, anything fairly wet and slippery will work in these old systems.

The Motaquip oil is good quality, it'll be whatever Peugeot use at the factory for their cars as Motaquip are PSA.

Get somebody to rock the steering (put the front wheels over some old glossy magazines) whilst you tip it in just to purge out any air, they rarely trap a lot though.

Cheers guys. I did the change and it only took 1 litre. I would have thought more my self.
