Anthony Grishman will tell you. He's about to do his.
or, measure the drained amount and guess how much is left in the rack prior to topping up,
or you could check the fluid levels in the book and see that....erm nothing is listed for steering fluid capacities.
Thanks Al, I'm losing fluid by the bucket load so measuring wouldn't be an option. I'd want to drain it completely as I've used several different varieties whilst topping up so would like to completely drain and then fill.
You need to fix the leak Alex before you think about refilling
I don't think you can drain the rack but the lowest point for gravity drainage is at the cooler behind the rad grill.
Even from a supposedly empty system, you'll struggle to use more than 2L.
If you're committed to utterly draining it, (draining the pipes, replacing the cooler and cycling the pump) budget for 3L, and expect to use 2.5L and have some left over.
I've got one of them somewhere, i'll check it although as Chris said before, what's the chances of a complete transfusion with a used/old system? Handy to know capacities though even after all this time.
Just did my pump last weekend ,took 2litres ,when u do urs just be aware theres a small piece of gauze in the tank..mine was full of muck...you cant remove it so i just took the tank out and flushed it out with white spirit..
