Hmmmm give the precats a thump

Tony, you may remember that I arrived at 'Fest last year with a rattle that sounded like engine damage at certain RPMs, and turned out to be those stupid bloody hex nuts that hold the heat shield on.

Having robbed two of them from under the rear seat squab, problem solved. I think your original diagnosis is the first thing to look for; after all, a collapsed pre-cat would make that bank run like a dog...

Next time I have her uncovered and give her a run, will look at this, just in case it is the hex bolt loose on the heat shield. Last time I checked, everything was all ok, but that was a while ago, so will re-check again.

Honestly without hearing it, it could be anything. But it would be best to check the easy and cheap things first, so why not? I thought I had a collapsed cat or maybe even a bad engine bearing - bear in mind that the noise changed with engine speed - so it was a relief that it was something so easy and stupid.

I hope it works out the same for you!

Ive only ever run premium in ours as I hear it has system cleaners etc in it, and i only want the best for her (the injectors etc are 17 yrs old)
I should stick a tank of regular in to see if there's any difference in how she runs...
