Has anyone else noticed that the prices of Cougars on AutoTrader (and to some degree, Ebay) have shot up?

4 out of the 5 on AT are priced at £2k or above, and the general average on ebay seems to be at about £1.5k

This is very different to when I bought mine. Could this be the start of general recognition of the Cougar as a classic?

A lot of chancers and most of them dont sell but if people daft enough to pay it !

The rate they are going to the scrap yards will drive the price up on the few left for sale, any good ones will jump up in value but the market is never going to be as strong as for other old fords like Escorts, Cortina, Capri etc.

They'll only go up to what people will pay for them. I could put a for sale sign on Jane for 20000 bucks. But regardless of the condition and how many are left I aint seeing it. Most people on the market for a cougar other then us nuts dont want a 99-02. They want 60s and 70s. As much as we hope theyll go up like were all sitting on some hidden gem, they wont. 1-2 K tops price if its in damn near mint condition with most of what I would want to do to it done already and less then 100K miles on it. Going by book value its not worth more then that and 90s to early 00s cars arent going up in value. Maybe in 30 years

Even if we could persuade the entire membership of UKC to put their wheels up for sale at £3,000 a pop and keep them there for several months, I doubt we would see any long term change in the market place. Might be worth a try though !

You're basically telling the story of the Rover Coupe, so I absolutely support your analysis.

AutoTrader is now only showing two Cougars for sale. I've never seen the number drop that low. Dunno if the listings expired or if they were sold one way or another.

I see three right now, two of them are C2's and the C1 is an XAV and the prices are a bit high but both C2's show quite low mileage . .

Anyway, there's probably loads more on eBay than autotrader. And then there'll be some that can be had for free in somebody's garden :)

That XAV has been on sale since I bought my one - that won't be sold any time soon. It's been off the road since 2014
